Fun it and anything off of Hot Space, except Los Palabras de Amor

You Take My Breath Away - just the album version
Play The Game - just the album version

I agree on certain aspects of You Take My Breath Away - the overproduction doesn't suit the song, especially the intro and outro. However I prefer the actual body of the studio song to live versions, just cos it has the guitar solo and an additional chorus.
What don't you like about Play the Game?
gerry wrote:For me its "Mother Love" & "These are the days of our lives" both songs so painful and sad to listen too,
i guess that was the main reason why i refused to purchase "Queen Forever".
really? more Gezzash*t eh?
because this ¬ ¬ ¬ is the reason you first gave when asked if you bought it:
gerry wrote:I digitally downloaded "Let me in your heart again"
also i did order the new album but cancelled as i believe it was a pointless release for us fans who already have all the other tracks on the albums.
i do not buy everything that now gets released as i believe Queen productions are getting very lazy as to what they put out.
surely your reason for "not purchasing" at the time was the genuine "main reason"...and NOT something you concoct later

I don't think a song being sad is a reason to hate it, either. Hate is a strong word - not listening to a song to avoid feeling sad doesn't equate to hating that song.

The two songs I absolutely refuse to listen to are Party and Body Language (sorry, Bob!). Body Language is undoubtedly the worst song in their discography, and Party is the worst opener to any album they've ever done.
Other songs I used to dislike I've grown to appreciate, none more so than Cool Cat. It's not single-worthy material, but definitely the most successful funk sound they achieved on Hot Space. Freddie's voice is smooth as silk, and John's bass, guitar, and electric piano (or clavinet?) work is superb. It's one of those lost tracks that make flipping over the record totally worth it.
On my "refurbished" discography I made in iTunes, I took a lot of songs out that I'm not particularly fond of, but all of them wound up as non-album B-sides, except Body Language, Party, and Delilah. I don't hate Delilah, but don't enjoy it enough to listen to it a whole lot.

I "get" disliking party. But it's really a bit of a segue into the album. I used to find the drum machine loop very dispiriting. Especially on the first listen. I feel ya
Now I think it's pretty good fun.
Songs I almost dislike or never listen to:
Jesus *(sorry, Jesus. .. If you're listening)
Loser in the end
I ABSOLUTELY HATE BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY when it's covered, sung karaoke whatever. .... never when Queen did it. But Jesus, (sorry again, Jesus) it's like pulling teeth
In only seven days. Great production, boring narrated song
Fun it. (Even though it has a groove)
*RETRACTED MY INCLUSION OF JEALOUSY* some days it works other days it feels like filler
Staying Power is a god awful song with a powerful mid section
Man on the prowl is diluted boring Queen. Formulaic.
And blurred vision has to be the worst crap they've ever cut to vinyl. Not even a turntable artist could make much out of it.
PISCTP is great except the vocal. Freddie could do a heap of a lot but even he couldn't pull off this vehicle for a female lead
Aside from that I love All Gods People for it's oddity, as with Delilah. RMF is great too.
I don't even wanna get started about the embarrassing "SURFS UP, SCHOOL'S OUT"
just godawful (lyrics and phase vocals though it has great atmospheric elements)
Yeeeeeeaaaaaaahh, I said it. And what?

Please just keep it in the Q+AL subforum. Lambert being shoehorned into every discussion is getting incredibly tedious.

You're quite right. I do apologise Tom.

For me, Cool Cat is painful. Calling All Girls is not a fave either. And I don't like three of the softer tracks off AKOM! One Year Of Love, although that' mainly because of Freddie's vocal, Pain and Pleasure (vocal like Cool Cat!) and Friends Will Be Friends is pretty corny.
I luurve Party, and the way it segues into Khashoggi's Ship, Seven Days is gorgeous to my taste, Jesus is a favourite with that monstrous riff, and these days I also really like the funk tracks off Hot Space including Staying Power, Dancer and Backchat. Of course I hated it when it came out though.

Haha it's no biggie. I understand that people have strong views on it, it's just a bummer when it starts to consume everything.
I don't really like One Year of Love, but once it gets stuck in my head I can't get rid of it. I have no idea why, it's not an especially catchy song really. In fact, it repeating in my head makes me dislike it more. Lol

Cool Cat always makes me want to commit acts of violence towards the CD. I guess that's why I rarely play Hot Space. I hope they were really drunk when they came up with that song - if they were sober, I don't know what valid excuse they could have.

I LOVE cool cat.. it has a great 1980's minimalism that shines. My favorite element of it is the sneaky keyboard that's in there. It makes an elemental song strong even thigh there's not much to begin with.
Its very laid back and airy. Its great music and oddly enough qualifies as a queen track
The one and only unarguably downright horrible Queen song is Man on the Prowl. It represents everything that was wrong with Queen in the 80s.
The track is completely derivative of Crazy Little Thing Called Love. No song exemplifies Queen as being followers and no longer leaders more than this one. And its subject matter is basically what tore the band apart - Mercury's interests being on the gay scene rather than his craft. And of course, this is ultimately what took him.
I don't think Man on the Prowl is a particularly good track at all (it's not terrible mind), however i wouldn't say it's completely derivative of Crazy. Sure, i think they looked at Crazy and saw that kind of style was successful and this is what probably influenced Freddie, but Queen imo, did that a lot and not just with this track. They had just done a whole album based on 'AOBTD' being successful. Also, i think a whole heap of songs were influenced by Freddie's search for love/intimacy/sex, again a lot of the Hot Space album. At least with MOTP it wasn't musically influenced by the gay nightclub scene like Body Language was.
I understand your specific qualms but i'm not sure this song should be singled out for those reasons.
