Not a matter or really loving this mix, but more so that they had those crystal clear vocal tracks to work with, and all that was released was that terrible orbit mix.
With a little work, that track could be very well done. That this fan mix blows away what was released is a shame.

yep,
Peter, it´s not a matter of wether we like or not this mix; it´s just that it works 10.000 times better than the Orbit crap that sadly was officially released.
is it just a fan mix? perhaps.
is it just the rough demo that became Brian & Roger´s version? yeah, why not
the thing is that, as a duet, it works perfectly well and, when listening, it makes you feel the (good) way a duet between two of the most iconic stars in pop/rock history should make you feel.

What Vali and Haystacks said.
It looks like a valid DUET and not just a case of having tossed an idea around but never having touched it.
It's sad if the MJ estate had ulterior motives for releasing that POS (*this is an acronym which stands for PIECE OF SHIT) orbit version.
But stranger things have happened. Like Michael's autopsy report bearing no signs of continued drug abuse. (Liver/kidney/brain damage) and the issues Michael had with releasing INVINCIBLE in the USA. (Sony + Mottola's vested interest in acquiring his percentage of the Sony ATV catalogue/Michael's being represented by conflict of interest lawyers which prevented his work masters from being reverted to him in his lifetime) ; his subsequent earnings valued in the hundreds of millions just by sitting on them. .
Anyways that's another topic
The track sounds more complete oddly enough without the bells and whistles. I know home pro audio stuff is getting more and more sophisticated but it almost sounds as if the instrumentation here on the "GOLD (*GOOD) MIX" was done with keyboards of the era AND a newly recorded string arrangement.
Maybe this is a deliberate "gold" (good) mix release or maybe it's one of those theft files from the alleged SONY infiltration prior to that comedy about north Korea.
I'm still curious about it. Particularly the part where seemingly no one cares

Well. It WAS kind of a HUGE deal when the then three tracks were announced. Then the release came much later and no one seemed (*media wise) to give a crap anymore

Where is Greg Brooks with his "property of Queen Productions" when you need him.....

I also think this is the real Freddie and Michael, but I also think it's a fan mix. There is one line from Freddie "I live in hope for a world filled with joy" at around 48 seconds. This line isn't in any version of this track that has surfaced, but the word "joy" sounds badly tacked on to me. I am sure Freddie must have sung the word joy in at least one song for someone to paste into this mix.
The only question I have is, where did the isolated vocals come from?
matt z · Member since
Doesn't sound tacked/spliced in to me.
Same with finding Michael singing "Vie" instead of Veev.
They're authentic different takes.

If the song was really worked on during FM/MJ sessions, Hot Space sessions, The Works sessions and Mr Bad Guy sessions then there are probably many vocal takes to choose from.
In my opinion, many of Freddie's takes on the Gold mix and Forever mix are taken from the Hot Space sessions as Freddie's voice here is very soulful and it doesn't sound so rough as on the Works and Mr Bad Guy album.
I agree with Matt that these takes are authentic. With this song, Queen could win the Guinness record for the song which has been worked on a very long time.

I wouldn't call this a "remix" and the Forever version is utter shite!
