I don't get the vitriol here. I get some fashion of disappointment. But in all honesty I think leaks and speculation always hype people up for massive disappointment.
And I'm not immune. I was hoping for more also BUT let's look at this:
There has been a call for an official release to the BBC sessions. So what if they had just said Queen at the BBC was being released and we got a 2 CD set of the sessions. It would have been for the most part approved.
Some people would have wanted more.
SO they try to create a product of greater value. Did they fall short in a strange fashion? Absolutely. But I never thought we'd get Golders Green at all so even in an only mostly complete version that's something.
I truly wonder if all that was leaked was a 2 CD version. Without whispers of a 6CD version. Then this was announced - I bet it would have been better received. Yes there would still be some complaints but a big difference I would think.
I'm not saying the complaints aren't valid at this point. I wanted complete Golders Green. I would much rather have had just the 3 concerts without any of the the interviews or had the interviews as a downloadable extra or whatever.
BUT we should really look at it this way as well. Isn't this at least a step towards the type of release we want? It's no Rainbow, but it's better than Odeon. It's also FAR better than ANOTHER compilation like Forever or GH re-re-re-re-re-re-re-release. But I tell you it seems that we have people on our side in the QPL team who are fighting against some unknown wall to get solid material...I feel grateful for the attempts and surely don't want to discourage the effort.
Imagine you have a product in your head for release and you say
"We can release the BBC Sessions, and Golders Green, Morumbai, and Mannheim! And some interviews afterwards as well." Then they come back and for whatever reason they say nah - flooding the market with Magic Tour releases (:-P), and Morumbai isn't quite a performance I'm glad with and Golders Green has some issues with a few of the ending tracks I can't fix up to speed (OR WHATEVER THEIR STRANGE REASONING IS)"
So then what do you do? You fight for the sessions and perhaps at least some of the concert tracks and maybe additional interviews.
Now you get this response. They can't say they agree with you but they do....but do they feel like trying to fight for more positive releases or is it just not worth the effort when everyone is going to slag it off anyways...
So be disappointed sure, but let's at least say this is better than many recent release....
I think you do not understand the reason why people are angry here. Again and again requests for more unreleased stuff have been denied claiming that the "casual customer" does not want this "imperfect" stuff, the fans have been ignored in favour of this ominous casual customer. Now there is a product which really cannot be aimed at the casual customer - it must be for the hard core fans and look what they offer. It's not for free, it will cost over 40 pounds and they expect the idiots who have bought Greatest Hits 25 times to buy old radio interviews which all fans have in their digital collection since 1995. I really wonder how much better the sound of Freddie's weather jokes might be on this official release and the 1989 interview is - of course - a re-release. The much asked for live stuff is not on this issue, just a few songs, it's a bad, bad joke. The only way to stop this charade is not buying the crap and let them give it away for free on the convention 2020 to the Adam Lambert fans.

Maybe they had some limitiation with the Golders Green show, with don't know. It's very unfortunately either way... But to mix this show with other two shows... What the hell was that?!

On Air Limited Edition/180gr+Downl [Vinyl LP]
Any idea what the DOWNLOAD track(s) could be ??

I'm looking forward to the cd's with BBC sessions (and the vinyls of that), but also the three interview discs are for me quite interesting. Like to have that in my collection.
For the cd with 3 parts of concerts... I don't like that very much... Personally, I'd rather have one complete concert, or even none at all...
Or... being very optimistic.... The cd is just a preview of the 3 complete concerts which will be released on cd next year :-)

If thye've done any proper work on the audio, I wouldn't be surprised to see maybe a couple of thes gigs being released in their entirety in the future - you know that QPL never sell us something only the once!!

Jeez.
£58 for a 3 vinyl set? (Amazon.co.uk)
They're taking the piss and QPL wonder why sales aren't as good as they'd like and then have the afront to turn round and say we ain't getting any more 70's concert DVDs (for example) because there's no demand?
Even the Led Zep deluxe vinyl sets were half this price for 3 discs.
Hammy 75 2 disc vinyl is only £26.

This is a real insult to long standing fans of the group to be honest...I just don't understand how they think...they're not fools.

Negative comments are being removed ... My 2 reactions (my real name was mentioned, I was just being an honest man) under the press release were removed.

Well they surely know how to take completely valid criticism...

Right, so the 2cd it is. Saves me a good deal of money not having to buy the box. Lost opportunity for a great box, but at least we get the full BBC sessions on a double cd that doesn't feature needless crap like interviews, so that's a definite plus.

Good to finally have news.
The interviews really could've been used as freebies to give away as promo tools around the releases - like iTunes bonuses or something. I can appreciate the historic value of some of the older ones but FULLY agree with the general consensus that to use up disc space for them while THREE gigs have been edited down to one disc is amazing.
Were these gigs edited like this for broadcast? If so, fair enough, but I don't think they were. Baffled.
2 CD set for me too.

'But there is another side to Queen’s rise that has been largely overlooked'
50/50 on this. Pretty sure they've been releasing the BBC material to us since 1989, then 1995 as b-sides, then 2002 as newspaper freebies, and then 2011 as bonus track content.
OR we could say they've been largely overlooked because QP never released the Beeb album promised in 1995.
I'm really really baffled by all this.

Hey, I dared to be critical but polite to the fact that they censor negative comments. And what a surprise - my comment is gone :-)
I feel SO privileged...
Why do I get sudden Ghostbusters 2016 trailer flashbacks?

Censorship is unworthy of everything Queen stands for (or should stand for, it's completely NOT rock 'n roll).
But hey, they prove to be nothing more, nothing less than just a multinational.... It's all about the £.
