I'm surprised Joe Mazzello has been cast as John when he's the spitting image of a young Brian.

Based purely on likeness, the casting are looking really good to my eyes - very promising start.

Baron Cohen's only saving grace is that his wife is absolutely fucking gorgeous.......

Good casting. However, if the script still has Fred dying half way through, then the rest of the film is about Queen+, then it will suck no matter how well it is cast. In fact, no matter what they do it will probably suck. Most musical biopics are terrible and only a few are successful.

Is this movie about Freddie or about Queen?

His death will of course not be in the middle of the movie. That just wont happen.

According to SB Cohen that's why he fell out with Brian and Roger over the script. Well, that and wanting to sensationalise it a bit more than the band were happy with.

I remain unconvinced about this, of corse everyone wants Freddie to be alive again and to a certain extent this revives him, I can see it being on the level of 'behind the candelabra' with Micheal Douglas and Matt Damon..so a reasonably small film but that was pretty good, which surprised me.
A couple of things can kill it I think, one is too much focus on Brian, roger and john, I know Brian wanted most of the movie originally set after Freddie's death which I presume is now dead itself as it's a terrible idea.
The other would be a camp comedy, which I really don't think was ever going to happen, but could have been with bara cohen..borat like. Or that dire channel 5 thing darlings.
Well I don't know, Freddie always wanted to keep his personal life private and they keep tinkering with his legacy (adding a orchestra to Barcelona..which Moran didn't like) and all the other things, part of me wants to say let's just leave it alone, it's tacky..but then part of me is curious, and I of corse want to see 'Freddie' around again so to speak.
I just wanted to pen my thoughts and I'll look back and see how it went, I think it's going to be a smallish drama with a few set pieces rather than a big movie...like a film 4 of BBC film, what more can be said though..made some music, told Brian to fuck off and vice Versa, john got drunk..Freddie cruised the gay clubs then played live aid.. depends if it's a queen film or a Freddie one I suppose.
Having said all this, It might be brilliant.

Having said all this, It might be brilliant, the recent Brian Pern and Thotch doc was fantastic.

ok so i have a question about this. the band have secured the rights to make this movie, right? i know it's an obvious question but a friend is arguing with me that they can't make it bc they havent secured the rights? is there any truth to this? can you provide me with a link to proving they can and are making this movie?

I don't have an answer to this, but no doubt the legalities of any film using published music are messy. But considering Brian and Roger have been involved with this for years, I'd say much of this stuff has been panned out.
In other news - your user name is fantastic. And here is the t-shirt I'm wearing today (the blurry text under the torch says "go to hell series").

It's already been openly discussed that the film only covers their career up to Live Aid; Freddie didn't die for another 6 years so he will live past the middle of the film.
