"a few inconsiderate (some might say selfish) people"

Aren't the people who are being selfish the ones who possess a gold mine of never-before-heard recordings and choose to keep them locked tight for themselves, rather than share them with the rest of the world (a great number of whom would pay good money to hear them)?
Spot on.
There is no back catalogue of another major rock/pop act out there that is handled so badly like the one of Queen.
John Deacon: "I've heard what they did and it's rubbish." "Freddie can never be replaced." Brian May & Roger Taylor - ruining Queen's legacy since 1998.

Back in the 90s i was really looking forward to an anthology set. I'd have almost mortgaged the house for it.

But I've been unimpressed with a 'lot'of the 'bits' that have been released. I think the way they worked especially during the later years means there is little of releasable quality in the archive. NOTW disc 3 was ok but even then i'd say the best version of All Dead is the hybrid version which isn't included,

The anthology boat has sailed - simply put it will not be the cash cow it could have been in the 90's. As such it will not be released.

They had the idea to publish an anthology (Tim Staffell told me, it would include Smile songs) but later refused to focus on WWRY musical. What a shame!

So they did consider it...

Anything similar to Freddie's box set would have been great. Plenty of things we still don't know about, I'm sure.

The Queen Anthology will be released but it will be after everyone who cares is dead.

I think it is widely known they were well into planning an anthology boxset in the mid-late 1990s. The musical has a lot to answer for - they'd rather have been involved in a play than curate their bands wonderful archive or continue on as creative musicians in their own solo careers. In years to come, people aren't going to be talking about the silly musical, monopoly games, 3d pictures or the misguided collaborations/live money makers with the likes of Paul Rodgers and Lambert - they are instantly forgettable and Brian and Roger know that.

Bollocks. The Beatles anthonoly was phenominal. Everyone (ie.. the 62 people here) said they want one. Apparently it bacame a 'thing'. People are still talking about it now.

Will people please stop using the word 'anthology'

Even if we got them the miserable fuckers here would still cry.

NO!

I will only calm down after an anthology of responses ask me to calm down...

Then we need still to be talking about my calming down anthology thread in 15 years time...

The "upcoming Anthology" is even mentioned in the book accompanying the Freddie Mercury Solo Collection.

Even The Rutles released an 'Archaeology' set. At this rate Lambert will be releasing his before Queen do.

There's an Electric Ladyland 50th anniversary edition coming up. New album remaster, a demos disc, a recently unearthed concert, documentary with 40 new minutes of footage, 96 kHz 24 bit 5.1 album mix, 48-page book with unpublished pictures... the dead artist that just keeps on giving. Nearly 50 years of posthumous studio releases and after claims of having fully drained the archive back in 2013, they still released another Jimi Hendrix album earlier this year (so as to create an unplanned "trilogy" along with the 2010 one) and now this massive new edition. Granted, they're absolutely scraping the barrel at this point since they're mostly slight variations of previously known tracks, but they have already released TWO anthology-like box sets on top of plenty of all-new posthumous albums. It's impossible to compare both Queen and Jimi in terms of how prolific they were, but the Hendrix archive only spans from 1965 to 1970 and there's been plenty of material worth your while, including lots of properly finished and mixed songs. And I'm not even factoring in live albums, the 2015 collaboration album or the official bootlegs. Meanwhile, at Queen Productions headquarters: (I know that it's Brian and Roger's fault for the most part, but still...)

I reckon by 2020 the 50th anniversary , "The Anthology " will be released. They could do a week by week release like the millennium falcon a few years ago . A song every week with magazine !

What amazes me is the lack of transparency between of QUeen camp and the fans. For years the fans are told there is nothing special in the vaults and only a few gems exist, which we don’t know and only guess. Several websites developed by Queenfans described about the unheard songs and demo’s and nothing is really confirmed from QP.

Then suddenly a new of the world cd (cd 3 from the box set) appears with outtakes and demo’s on the market . What are they thinking: ? Dumb ass fans forget What we told them in the past.
