Yep it is 40 years since Queen released "Jazz" back in 1978.
I remember getting the album for my birthday in November 1978.
There is some amazing tracks on the album like "Dead on Time" " If you cant beat them" "Mustapha" etc....... so why has the album had no celebration re-release with special bonus content added like re-takes and archives and even unreleased tracks that never made the cut? To me these classic Queen albums are a million times more important than current Queen + activity.

The only thing that has been established concerning JAZZ is the Queen fan club have some new Jazz merchandise for sale but no new Cds on this iconic album.

I remember going to the Lyceum in '78 and hearing the album before it was released.
It was at the first convention, the one that got forgotten.

BJOU, re:

>so why has the album had no celebration re-release

Simple. There's no mileage in it. No absolute standout singles were released from the album that could be used to piggy-pack on and, arguably, contains some utter shit in Mustapha, More Of That Jazz, Fun It and Dreamer's Ball.

In the current climate of #metoo, you'll never get a lot of airplay for either Fat Bottomed Girls or Bicycle Race and certainly NONE for the BR promo.

Nothing going for it, really.......

I do disagree as " Fat Bottomed Girls" & " Bicycle Race" is played often on my local radio station.
"Mustapha" was a european smash for Queen and " Dreamers Ball" was a crowd pleaser and that is why it was included on "Live Killers" in 1979.

I think we can wait for 2020 for a 40th anniversary boxset of The Game. 2 US number 1's on that. They won't miss that believe me. For next we can only cross our fingers for a Live Killers boxset. But....oh yes, they're also going on tour.

There is something going on right now that Queen are more invested in. Plus, Jazz is horrible.. the first Queen album with filler material, there are some hits there so lets plump it out with some crap.. I like to try and convince myself that it because they were very busy and had a reputation as a live act so they made the most of the limited studio time but you cannot compromise standards.

It is strange that up until recently DSMN was the most popular Queen song by far.. it is almost that they didn't give it that much thought so it came out amazing.

Queen or *Queen+*?

Yep - a turd is still a turd, no matter how much you polish and package it .

"Queen or *Queen+*?"

The movie. They are going to drain that fucking thing for every penny. Forget new material for at least the next 4 years...

Jazz was a fun album and not as bad as some people think of it on here.
I only wished they had released "if you cant beat them" as a UK single as it was a lively rocky sort of song and would have been great after "Dont stop me now"

let's be honest, the 'anniversary' sets are only for albums that had great sales on his day. But Jazz wasn't a huge hit... we could expect an anniversary remaster of The Game, but not from Jazz or Hot Space
Queen is the best

I don't think it was a bad album in my opinion but for me it was that transition album from the old Queen to the new. News Of The World was their last truly great all round album in my eyes.

It was / is fucking dreadful. That pseudo-mono thing going on at the start of "Mustapha" is just an utter embarrassment. There's no way on EARTH that is a deliberate, artistic statement.

As a single in competition with material from the likes of The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Jam etc, it would have absolutely bombed at over 4 minutes.

Perhaps it would have been a success in Europe, but as a commercial market, would have carried absolutely no weight (reference the success of The Cross in Germany......).

The reason why Queen didn't do a special edition of Jazz is simple: Brian and Roger don't like the album .

Also, commercially Jazz was their least selling album since Queen II .

Why would Queen celebrate an album that didn't bring much worldwide success like News Of The World or A Night At The Opera?

Jazz is not one of my favourites because there are a couple of songs I don't like.
