Jazz is a very unfocused and uneven album. The band were rich (aka no longer hungry), exiled, and uncertain of what to do with their sound in the midst of new wave. There's some beautiful stuff on there, but they're just as often out in the weeds.
Roy Thomas Baker's last big job was The Cars debut, and it still sounds like it was recorded yesterday. Any sonic issues with Jazz were almost certainly not his fault. His name may be on the cover, but it sounds like he's only in the room for 3 or 4 songs.
The fact that they played 8 of 11 songs from NOTW on the NOTW tour and only 5 of 13 songs from Jazz on the Jazz tour pretty well indicates what they thought of each album at the time.
So considering the band were in the midst of an identity crisis, it's pretty remarkable that they still managed to come up with three classics.

The way I see Jazz is It's not as good as the first 6 albums, but better than anything after The Game, Talking about Hot Space through The Miracle...Innuendo and MIH I like a bit more than Jazz...Overall, I like the album..The 3 hits are good, but also a big fan of Mustapha, Jealousy, Dreamers Ball, Dead On Time, Entertain You, and Leaving Home ain't easy...That leaves about 3 or 4 songs I dislike, which is a lot for a 70's Queen album...

Yeah JAZZ is more east to listen to than " Made in Heaven" or "Innuendo" and i would play it more.
i would hardly say Queen were in an identity crisis they were just toying around with new sounds and styles but Freddie encouraged the boys to do that on every album,
You have to remember we have a very intelligent band here and they always wanted to push the boundaries and be three steps ahead of everybody else.

Jazz, the coke album!
I love almost everything about it except for the slightly 'muddy' sound and also Let Me Entertain You, which has always grated with me. I can see where they were going with it, but it's never been a favourite of mine. Aside from that, it's Queen in excess, where they're at their best and at their most infuriating to the press, so that's a plus. More of that Jazz, which everyone seems to hate, is actually good fun and typical Roger (compare with A Human Body). The song medley was probably made for DJs to promote the album.

VH I'M SORRY I JUST REALISED WHAT HYPOCRISY MEANS AND YOU WEREN'T BEING A HIPPO CRITIC WHEN YOU SAID THAT. ROGER BEING ON FINE FORM AND THE PRODUCTION SOUNDS ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS, SO SAYING HE WAS GREAT WHILST THE ALBUMEN DIDN'T SOUND TOO GRATE DOSENT MAKE YOU A HIPPOCRATIC OATH. SORRY.

yea, The album and tour sums up 70's Queen and shows the excess of where they were at...Especially Freddie. I think in 1978 I could see it as a disappointment, but now? Compare Jazz with Hot Space, The Works, Magic and The Miracle...Jazz easily is better than those albums..In all honesty It's better than Made In Heaven as well, even though I have a warm spot for MIH..Those 3 or 4 songs I dislike are Fun It, More Of That Jazz, If You Can't Beat Them and In Only Seven Days....The latter songs are ok I guess, but Falls short for me.

So you want to spam my user name again, with 14 posts, how sad are you.? You obviously have got a big problem in your sad pathetic life and want to spoil this interesting thread yet again.
You are either vocal Harmony, Beta215 or Thistle.

BJOU, thanks for the reply!
It saved me having to spend time replying to BJOU to explain just that, but I'll say this to BJOU just so he understands.
Performance and production, while connected, are two separate things. Rogers playing on that album is brilliant, fiery very like his live work at the time, the way he was recorded and the production on a lot of those songs doesn't bring out the best in sound and clarity.
Once again BJOU thank you! BJOU hope that clears that up for you?!

Stop linking me to your fake account. Enough is enough.
There are hundreds of members here, and many can't be arsed with you. Take your pick, but it ain't me.
I've not conversed with you here for a couple of weeks. If you're still obsessed, it's you who has the problem. But I can assure you, I have one account here and it's this one.

THISTLE : Nothing fake about my account, and i apologise if you are not responsible but someone is.
VOCAL HARMONY is my second culprit on here, she cannot stand a thread to go smoothly and has to get her beak in.
This JAZZ discussion is my posting and it was going fine until VH wrecked it yet again.
Weve had no trouble on here until that duplicate spamming of my username yet again.

oh, this crap again....Grow up already! by the way, I agree Roger's drumming Is probably at it's best on Jazz...The thin sound is the problem.

Mike Hunt So sorry this thread has been spoilt yet again by idiots who have to clog up a discussion with mindless spamming and copying my user name.
We know its Vocal Harmony as she is a petty brat. Have you notice other opinions do not get any response from VH but when i post something she causes trouble.
I must point this out to other users you now know who is the troll on Queenzone, Vocal Harmony, Now everyone back to the discussion on Jazz.

For what it's worth, I don't think VH is trolling you. The comments about Roger's awesome drumming being muddied by poor production are valid, and in no way displays signs of hypocrisy or trolling.
I also don't think it's VH with the fake account.
All said, best forgetting about it. The topic is actually a good read

I am trying to get peoples views on the topic and i do not need people spoiling this topic with fake accounts it is childish and pointless.
Vocal Harmony & Beta215 are the culprits, so please don not treat me as an idiot because i know those two are quite capable of anything on here.
