So either they didn’t turn down performing the opening of the Oscars, because they were never asked, or they were asked and did not turn it down, therefore intend to open the show, but don’t want to ruin the surprise. Hmm.

I don’t understand why Adam cannot host the event. I doubt he would turn it down. He could do a little medley of all the nominated songs, make “I love you” eyes at Lady Gaga, talk about his cameo in the movie: “Did you notice it was me?” And then when all the glamorous movie stars come on stage to announce the awards, he could look them up and down and say things like, “Mmm Hmm. You lookin’ fine!” Or “What are you doing after the show?”
How hard could it be? I say we vote on it now.
Even Bruce Springsteen and Cher are doing shows on Broadway now so it is not strictly musical theater there anymore!

I've no idea about any of the previous Oscar's hosts I don't watch award shows although did Ricky Gervais not host it at some point, or maybe that was the globes, I'm not sure. I've no idea what Adam will host in the future but I'm sure he wouldn't do anything wrong on anything he got asked to do.
They wouldn’t even have to perform. They could just get lost backstage. Rob Reiner could write and direct the opening. Rami could wear one of his sparkling leotards, in red. And Ben could put on his “Roger” hair (that’s all anyone needs). They could stop and ask directions from (surprise!) Brian May! And Gwyl could say, “I’m the smart one, and even I can’t find the stage.” Joe would make one of his “Oh really? Thank you very much” faces. It would be great!

Reminder: Adam did host and perform in the VH-1 Divas show several years ago. It was way after the AMAs and he did a nice job, He has a good sense of humor and some of what he did in that AMA show was meant to be tongue in cheek and not as serious as it was taken.

I think he could do well hosting a music awards show if he ever did, the Tony's. But the Oscar's...never. Brian and Roger would maybe, maybe have more of a chance...and there is little chance of them hosting the Oscar's as well.
What he did on the AMAs all those years ago wasn't appropriate for the time and place. Others saying the kiss with his bandmate was wrong, just not the right time or place to do it.

Music shows and award hosting are different than hosting movie awards, since you need it pointed out for you.
