As every fan known, it's possible that the Thank God It's Christmas single started out as a Man On The Prowl single, with 12" extended mixes for both the A and B sides already finished. However, Queen later decided to record a Christmas single and make that the A side instead, with the MOTP single moved to the B side.
I think the cover was the same during both phases of the release, and MOTP got some airplay to promote The Works album in the US on the "Rock Over London" radio show. Is Man On The Prowl a good A-side or not?

Much like "Scandal" (extended version), I wouldn't consider TGIC (extended version) official. They're both Hollywood Records versions that released later on and without direct involvement from the band.

Back in mid 80s I really like it. Back those days it was just music not over analyzing things. If it had been released it could have been in top 20 or higher. Nice playing by all of them including Fred Mandel.
