hi,
if people want to take it on and pay for the hosting - that would be fine by me. It is just hosted on Microsoft Azure, so pretty easy to do. I am in a transitioning phase at the moment (moving back to Australia/currently no job/relying on my savings) - so am reducing costs.
The reasons why I haven't had loads of moderators:
1. I believe in free speech.
2. People should be able to "ignore" things they don't like.
3. The time when I did open it up to more moderators - I was bombarded with people complaining about fairness of the moderation.
I experimented with creating a hard-copy version of the site- probably do-able. The site runs of a database, so is mainly "dynamic".

To be honest I don't think the whole site as such is worth keeping online (and I'm saying that as somebody who spent/wasted here days and nights and weeks and months at one point :-))), it's a mess that hasn't been updated for two decades. On the other hand, the history of the forum includes many VERY interesting conversations that would deserve to be kept forever. I wonder how to do it... how about keeping QueenZone only as a discussion forum? Even if without any new posts. But the forum history should be preserved.
$50 for hosting is way too much anyway (unless it's a dedicated server). How big is the forum database? Are we talking about dozens of gigabytes, dozens of millions of records? I don't have time to write any scripts these days but a SQL backup of the forum would be nice to have. It should be easy to present it online in a "hard/fixed" form.

QOL is a disaster whose moderation only permits sycophantic "truths" and adulation.

If this site does indeed close I can't see myself joining another Queen forum.I am sorry to say I am just not interested in the current incarnation of Queen.I was nine year's old when I first got the Queen bug since then I have spent a small fortune on all thing's Queen 45's.LP's,Cassete's,CD's,Box Set's,Concerts and Merchandise.They were the most important thing in my life,I lived and breathed all thing's Queen like so many other's on this site.The begining of the end was probably in 2008 and the Queen&Paul Rodger's collaboration and TCR Album.However I hung on in there,went to see a couple of the show's not too bad,but nothing like the Queen that I knew and loved.Then the end of my love affair came when they hired Adam Lambert ,I could no longer love this once great Band anymore.I have moved on from Queen and I feel happier for it,there are so many other Band's that I enjoy,Placebo,Muse,Sparks,Streophonics to name a few.These Band's have new Albums to enjoy put on great concert's and do not forget the original fanbase.I know there are a lot of younger fan's who are getting into Queen at the moment ,which is great.It's just not my cup of tea anymore,but whilst it lasted it was great.

It's a pity that Queenzone will be shut down, but to be honest I didn't visit it often anymore since I found another Queenforum.
It would be a pity however if all the information in the various topics would be lost forever.
And now that Queenzone will be closing, I will make a last attempt to ask my question about the 'Stage Of Champions' section.
I downloaded lots of the fan covers from there, burned them on CD, but unfortunately many of them can't be played anymore.
Since the 'Stage Of Champions' section only gives errors when trying to re-download the MP3's, I would like to ask if someone out here still has the following MP3's that I lost:

It will be very sad to see the forums go. I haven't bothered with the new forum that was set up - because I think it stank that 2 people in particular deliberately set out to argue constantly with someone they could have very easily not interacted with, with the clear intention of making the forum horrendous and to launch their own. People like that can go fuck themselves frankly.
Have you looked into cheaper hosting/downgrading to a cheaper url? $50 seems incredibly high....?

The administrator ban me from there and I haven’t even posted hardly any there lol. I don’t like the regulations on certain subjects anyway it’s apart of who Freddie was and what some of his songs were truly about.I used to belong to a fb group and had a argument with one lady and it blew up here bigger than Dallas so the whole bunch told the administrator I was a troll so silly. I been a member on Queen chats for a while but since they are gonna have to move there they ban me so crazy lol I don’t even post much over there. I wasn’t even really interested to many restrictions I feel you.

I wouldn’t mind things staying open if a certain group of ladies move to queen chats like I think they have decided to do and one other troll stays away the rest are okay. I love to talk about the songs. I just love music.I just wanted it shut down if they couldn’t come to some kind of moderation to stop the bullying my family got exploited here. My home even got uploaded by a troll on the site. I thought that was enough.

Been visiting this brilliant fan site since 2005 and no others!! very sad it's being closed but I agree with all Richard's reasons incl the Q+AL band it's just not for me anymore it's more about money and a drag queen these days and not about music in the slightest, I also was sick of the childish squabbling. I'll miss the place and highly doubt I'll be joining any others. Thanks Richard hope you're future goes well.

That's severe spamming.
Your spamming of QZ with multiple threads demanding moderation was ridiculous.
Your personal attacks on QZers are infamous.

I wouldn’t mind things staying open either like I said with those others gone it is a lovely place to post about music. That others site I didn’t post in much I was there a while but never posted much I don’t think many from here did consider it till now. I’m glad they have a place to go I think this place could stay open.
