I still think it would be difficult for an actor
even to take off Freddies speaking voice, if you listen to his interviews, it was the same as his
singing voice, going from very low to very high in a single sentence, sometimes camp sometimes
very macho, sometimes an intense stare straight in the eye ( I can see it now!) sometimes a nervous laugh (hand over the mouth) etc etc.
He would be IMO a very difficult part to play even
for a professional.

Nothing is perfect. Still Johnny Depp has the same deepness eyes.
More experimental casting:

What the hell are they waiting for, I want to see this motion picture NOW
I vote Muppet Freddie!
Sorry for my terrible english.
I want to see a movie like that, but i think that nobody could play Freddie Mercury in a movie picture. i believe that it is too difficult to be good. He was uniquely. i think that nothing will be perfect and Freddie was a perfectionist.

Johnny (Depp, not Knoxville). Just watch him in Donnie Brasco movie - in the scenes there he's with moustache - he looks like Freddie from 1984-1985 years.
I think Tom cruise is the opposite of Freddie ...
I know one thing they have in common.
if tim curry was younger
hairy chest would matter a lot...whoever may be... :D

YEP!
Guys, we're missing an obvious point here: many of Freddie's physical characteristics were typical of people of his ethnicity. He was a Parsi, who are ethnically Persian, i.e Iranian/ Afghan/Pakistani or thereabouts. The Iranian film industry is one of the largest in the world, there are many actors who would more closely resemble Freddie than a caucasian in terms of facial shape, build, dental structure, speaking voice. Many British asian actors would be good choices on this basis. What about a Bollywood star?
myself
All in all we can say that nobody really can play a Freddie Mercury properly to satify his fans and attract him to the audience of today.
I can`t understand that so many of you named Johnny Depp as a possibility. I hardly can imagine him as Freddie.
cheers
