Freddie had a ring on and was wearing it when he died because Mary Austin wanted him to take it off when he got sick up to her old tricks. She even at the end wanted him to be hers even in death. The ring was given to him by Jim to represent his love for him Jim was old fashioned country boy it seemed how special I bet that was. What other man would’ve stayed with their bf with that diagnoses.Mary was there to collect the money and her house promised to many years ago by a young struggling Freddie that didn’t want to hurt her by revealing the fact he was gay.

Freddie’s friends Lee and Thor said they were on a special visit to meet Jim Freddie called him his husband. I won’t give out no more info they are writing a book that will cover such matters.Whoever wants to know more needs to by the book there is a lot of answered material I’m sure.

Chevyman, your presumptions about Mary are sexist quite frankly. Why do men presume women are always pining away and carrying a touch for them? Their relationship was platonic. They BOTH accepted their relationship had shifted into a platonic, but still deeply loving friendship.

QUOTE Freddie Mercury:

”Mary is very independent about the life I lead. But it is a kind of understanding that doesn’t come overnight. We have gone through a lot of ups and downs in our times together, but that has made our relationship all the stronger. I know a lot of people find it difficult to understand our relationship, and, yes it is an odd bond, but other people who come into our lives just have to except it.

WE LOVE EACH OTHER VERY MUCH AND LOOK AFTER EACH OTHER

Mary and I will probably grow ancient and grey together, I can't imagine life without her. Sometimes a good friend is more valuable than a lover”

”Mary IS VERY INDEPENDENT ABOUT THE LIFE I LEAD”

They had an adult understanding between each other. There is no need to infantile Mary or any woman as some sort of love-sick forlorn unrequited love. They had an understanding with each other. Mary was a grown woman.

I think it would be wise to not take Jim Hutton’s claims as the gospel truth. We know know that he lied about them all being summarily thrown out. Phoebe has explained why, because of the probate court, the assets at been frozen and for legal reasons NO ONE was able to live in the main house until probate was signed off on. It was nothing personal, but Jim lied about that. Mary gave them 3 months to leave. That was PLENTY enough time and reasonable.

I mean REALLY. is anybody SOOO FOOLISH as to think Freddie wouldve wanted or expected a 7 month pregnant woman with a toddler and a baby daddy and all the coming complication that came with being bequeathed the house and having to mourn Freddie herself, to ADDOPT 3 middle aged men and continue to pay all their expenses indefinitely until they just felt like leaving?

So if he lied about those things, why would you just take his word about the nafarous ring incident?

Freddie called multiple boyfriends ”the Hubby”, ”Husband” through the years. It was a schtick Freddie did. Impossible to know when, if EVER he actually believed that way.

Chevyman, Freddie bought a €20,000 ring for Winnie kirschberger and gave it to him the night of the black and white drag ball in Sept. 1985.

Jim Hutton tried to get Freddie to buy HIM a ring for his birthday in ’87 when Freddie only wanted to get him a bracelet like he had done other employees and lovers.

Jim Hutton tried to coax Freddie into buying him a ring instead, but needless to say, Jim left Cartiers empty handed.

Hutton had to take his birthday money and BUY HIMSELF a SIGNET ring (not a wedding band).

His good friends said so so I tend to believe what they say. Mary was still deeply in love with him I believe . He didn’t or couldn’t feel the same way. That’s why she was so old when she had children I think she truly thought he would give up his gay lifestyle and return to her one day. It was never really in her face with his men and when he settled with Jim it was reality that things weren’t gonna change. G Th hen his AIDS diagnoses she finally decides to have children by a man she didn’t love I really think she just settled because she knew Freddie wasn’t coming back and he was now going to die thats my opinion. He did love Jim friends said so.He did wheat Jims ring and Jim and Peter and Joe nursed him two of them with AIDS at the time. They all were a loving family of men. By the way I’m not a man I’m a woman.

It’s not an assumption about Mary loving Freddie a person can’t help what the heart feels. I have had the same similar experience I knew it was wrong to even entertain the thought but the heart doesn’t care if the other person is compatible with your sex or not it just wants what it wants. The only peace I have gotten from my experience is it’s rare for this to happen and it won’t happen again in my life time.So yes I wasn’t assuming anything she couldn’t help feeling the way she did and I’m sure he knew that. But he was gay and he loved Jim Hutton.Just like my gentleman is a gay man an loves men as well and I hope he has found happiness. If you care for someone you want them happy not miserable . She wanted Freddie to take that ring off it meant so much to him he wouldn’t do it.End of story I believe.

People make their own traditions between eachother whether it’s bracelets earrings or rings. A tradition between two people is what you want to make it . It doesn’t have to make since to anyone else but you. I think Freddie and Jim made a handsome couple Freddie liked his men thick and Jim fit the part.
F
Chevyman, Ifmyourma woman, that makes your sexist assumptions about Mary that much worse.

What proof is there that Mary was still IN LOVE with Freddie?. His friends say they loved each other. But that does not equate to her still being IN LOVE with him? People absolutely DO get, over their romantic feelings and become platonic friends with ex-lovers/spouses all the time. You projecting your inability to do that is not proof of anything. There is no reason to believe their devotion to EACH OTHER was romantic in nature.

Mary mentioned the ring because her grandmother had just died and they were unable to remove her jewelry and wished someone had told her. Mary was being kind to Jim, presuming he would want the ring as a keepsake, and Jim had to twist it into something nasty. Which is very revealing about Hutton’s true nature.

We don't know if Hutton ever mentioned the ring to Freddie. Just another Hutton claim with no evidence behind it.

Mary was so ”old” when she had children because she was busy running Freddie’s businesses. She was an officer of his companies and she ran them to such a degree Freddiemsaidmall he had left to was ”throw his carcass around the stage.

You don't know that she ”decided” to have children at all. It may have been a ”surprise” pregnancy. And once she had one, she wanted a sibling for it.

Freddie was definitely gay. That is not proof in and of itself that Hutton was that special to Freddie. I'm sure there was some level of a relationship at some point, I just don't think it was the love affair Hutton makes people think it was. The people who, say Freddie loved Jim are mostly people who are making money off of it.

Politically, and from a public relations perspective it wasn't a bad idea, given AIDS and the public judgement of Freddies past promiscuity, to let people believe he had ”settled down and found true love”. And fighting Hutton’s account in his book would only create more scandal around Freddie’s memory. So, the idea wasn't fought against.

HOWEVER, according to Hutton himself. neither Joe Fanelli or Phoebe Freestone considered Hutton to be Freddie’s boyfriend while he was alive. They were privy to Freddie’s private life more than almost anyone else, for over half a decade, and STILL did not see Hutton as anything special to Freddie.

In the end, Freddie treated Hutton the same as his two other live-in employees, nothing more and didn't even leave him one sentimental item. 500,000 each. HID from him the location of his final resting place.

Freddie had to be coaxed and guilted into wearing Jim’s ring TWO YEARS after Hutton first gave it to him and Freddie never chose to give one to Jim.

Jim didn’t nurse Freddie. He took two night shifts in the last 6 days before Freddie died starting on November 18th.
And Pheobe said that it required no ACTUAL caretakeing because Freddie would let them sleep rather than disturb them.

Yes. People make their own traditions. But Hutton wanted a ring from Freddie and Freddie refused to go along with it. Freddie, who’s favorite thing in the world is to buy gifts for people ended up giving Hutton cold hard cash. Freddie just wasn't that into Hitton

Don't know why the system put all the question marks in... But here’s what it said

From Mercury and Me':
.
”All the time Freddie and I had our loving friendship I lived with certain people [plural, Joe and Phoebe] dismissed me as 'JUS T THE GARDENER..
.
[We] always looked on you as 'just the gardener'..,WE NEVER THOUGHT YOU AS FREDDIE'S BOYFRIEND.”

Hutton made a beautiful Garden guys he knew his husband loved his flowers and fish.Thats the way he earned his money as well as showed his loved to his husband. I believe Freddie wanted him near him all the time they were like any little married couple it seemed. People have ups and downs nothing’s perfect especially relationships.
C
I think he could trust him and some of those scars he talked about began to heal. I can relate. It seems he liked some rough characters in the past that liked to fight and bust things up and fight him. Bill Reid he was terrible I read about him he bit him. Damn was he part dog.

Everybody wants to be loved!!!!!!!

Chevyman,

Hutton was a part-time gardener. In addition to Jim Freddie had a weekly gardening service to come in and also had a separate Japanese gardener for the Japanese garden section.

This is another thing that has been greatly exaggerated.

Hutton also physically assaulted Freddie. Freddie stayed with Bill Reid for another 6 months after he bit him. Freddie had a habit of picking abusive men.

Hutton himself talks about how Freddie would go clubbing WITHOUT HIM , often with Peter Straker. So, no, Hutton was often only around when Freddie needed him for work, the same way Phoebe and Joe were. As an employee.

Mike Moran says that actually Hutton wasn’t always around Freddie as he likes to make out,

“Jimmy used to get drunk and embarrass everybody and that’s why HE WAS NEVER PRESENT at a lot of the things he claimed to be. ~ Mike Moran

“...Several of Freddie’s friends have a question some of Hutton‘s more over the top anecdotes one said “I’m surprised Jimmy could have stayed sober long enough to have remembered some of those things he did with Freddie.” David Brett Freddie Mercury an intimate biography
”I’m not afraid to speak out and say the things that I want to do, or do the things I want to do. So I think in the end being natural and being actually genuine is what wins.”
