The fact that it's the "top 22" gives an inclination that it's a stupid poll. With so many voices NOT listed, how can one with half a brain look at this and feel that 22 covers everyone in the music world? It's not like it's the only poll in the world either; it's no definite "this is how it's gonna be, damnit" poll to be set in stone. Ask any musician, and they'll tell you that Mercury had an amazing voice; classically trained, too.
Don't get upset over this, for their are many polls of "greatest singers", and believe me, in more than half of them, Fred is at the top.
It's nothing to get too huffy about.
Cheers

Exactly.

This site makes all other music lists worthless. Ha, check out #26.
I remember seeing that list once before. It's a good one, too; Jeff Buckley deserves the spot he's in, as well as everyone else. Fred was also in the most influential vocalist group; good job Freddie boy! ;)

Okay...I'm not knocking down Mariah Carey...she is a great singer! But her first before Freddie is just an insult!! MTV or VH1, whatever the heck it is, should be ashamed!!!

Technically, her voice isn't that great. Sure, it's a good pop singing voice; she can hit high notes that is split-inducing. But it's not a strong voice, and singing like that for a long time results in vocal strain in later years; a.k.a. a shittier voice than previously acknowledged. Take it from me; Breathy=bad.

Also, I think you really have to at least separate the male vocalists from the female vocalists. It's just so different.
Creativity can always cover for a lack of knowledge.

But then you'd get people saying "how sexist! why can't they be in the same list?"
Those are the kinds of people who make me fantasize about stomping their face into a jar.

And for the record, I love Sade, and her "band" and I even like Bono of U2, along with his band...but come on...I dont know, maybe its just me, but these people on the list arent that "strong" vocally...at least to me their not, ahhhh, I sound like a critic now!!LOL!!

Check the list musicman put out. Robert Plant was second, and well, it's a list of 100, so I think many others are in there.

what about Sinatra? he had great voice!
Sinatra is on the list.

And I agree about Barbra Streisand, but shouldn't Linda Ronstadt be there, too?
Linda Ronstadt absolutely is great too. She can sing the pants off anyone. She sang rock, country, New Wave, hard rock, pop, jazz, standards, R&B, maharichi. Hell, she has sang every musical genre I can think of. Christina Aguilera or Pisstina Aquafina as I call her is a show-off and is just as bad as Mariah or Hoeriah as I call her. Alicia Keys is good as well.
