[QUOTENAME]Saif wrote: [/QUOTENAME]Who cares if Paul Rodgers was Freddie's hero? lmao, even if they hired Robert Plant instead of Paul Rodgers, people would be upset. And Robert Plant WAS a hero of Freddie's. Actually, later Freddie became Plant's hero, but whatever. :P Paul Rodgers is a great vocalist, IMO.
I'd be much happier if they hired Robert Plant!!

you have to leave soon

bliss i tell you bliss
i got a way with the boys on my block.. :-)
The fact Freddie never mentioned Paul in interviews doesn't exclude the possibility that he COULD HAVE admired him (and Paul's a great singer so he probably did).

BUT the fact that whenever Freddie was asked about his favourite singers he answered Liza, Aretha, Montserrat and (within rock/pop) Robert Plant and George Michael clearly demonstrates that Paul was NOT his favourite.

So Roger's and Brian's claims aren't neccesarily a lie, but sure enough they're an exaggeration.

But this isn't the first nor the last time somebody puts words on a dead person's mouth.
John hated Hot Space. Frederick's favourite singer was not Paul Rodgers. Roger didn't compose 'Innuendo.' 'Bohemian Rhapsody' hasn't got 180 vocal overdubs.
I'd like to see some of the people in this thread get into a fight with Winnebago Man. God it'd be sweet.
For god's sake, who gives a flying fuck? Who cares if PR was or wasn't Freddie's hero? I don't, why do you have to dig up old ass threads and post new but not new shit about the topics? Cro, get a fucking life. This is worse than the whole GB charade.
Hello you rock and rollers!

Pathetic, says he doesn't care, yet can't help wading in to say so.

If you don't like "old ass" threads you don't have to go in them jackass

I'd like to see you post something interesting, either here or on your self absorbed blog page. God, it'd be sweet.
[QUOTENAME]7 seas of Rhye wrote: [/QUOTENAME]Why would Paul be Freddie's hero? Freddie was a million times better than him in every way!
Well, Hank Marvin was Brian's hero, and Brian is million times better and far more interesting than Mr. Marvin. So there you go.

Young musicians need their heros in order to get better, and in time, exceed their heros (in some cases).
Such statements should not be taken so seriously. It's called "publicity" or "marketing".

When Brian and Roger teamed up with Paul Rodgers it was obvious that many fans would have a problem with the mere fact that someone else was "taking Freddie's place". The statement that Freddie admired Paul Rodgers was meant to pacify the fans, that's all. It would have been stupid to say "Freddie would hate to see Paul Rodgers fronting us" - who in his right mind would do that? It's the same when they are asked about other artists and say how much they admire them - it's just social talk.

Music Man wrote:

"Apparently you have examples where Roger and Brian are lying and you can prove it?"

Yes, a lot in fact. Whenever they were asked about touring and/or Freddie's health between 1989 and 1991. It's not uncommon that people lie if it is better for themselves, their business or their friends. How much truth does a celebrity owe the public, anyway?
I do not want any google ads here.
[QUOTENAME]FriedChicken
The Almighty wrote: [/QUOTENAME]I also never heard Freddie say that he wrote Delilah, I never heard him say that John Lennon was a hero of him.

Why won't you believe 2 friends, who knew him best for almost 25 years
i have read that he said john lennon was his hero..something about that in the book Freddie mercury in his own words
What about "Lennon is a genius" lyric in 'Life Is Real'?

I don't know who was Freddie's favourite, but I've read he listen to Jimi Hendrix + others...
All I can say, is when Ian Gilland quit DEEP PURPLE back in 1973, their FIRST wanted replasement for DP was PAUL RODGERS. But at this time he was in BAD COMPANY. So therfor David...
Anyway, I saw 2 QUEEN + PR concerts in 05.
Let's hope they make a REALLY GOOD album, and I might which to see them again.

New concert on the 'home cdr' marked VANCOUVER Dec. 78. GREAT SHOW.
Hitler also was a genius, but that doesn't mean i'm a fan of what he did, or that I approve his acts
[QUOTENAME]August R. wrote: [/QUOTENAME]
[QUOTENAME]Rompez wrote: [/QUOTENAME]Actually it was Rodger who said that Paul was great singer back in the 70's. There was some TV quiz show with Rodger as a guest. He had to guess the singer of the song. And he answered something like: "of course, it is great... GREAT Paul Rodgers!" His face was shining. There is a clip from that show somewhere on the Youtube. Rodger is not Freddie but anyway this story tells us a lot, does it? And speaking about Free's influence on Queen. Listen to It's Late and you will feel it.
Who the hell is this Rodger-person and what's he got to do with Queen?!?
My bad. Everything could happen if you try to write a message in the foreign language at 3 AM in the morning. LOL Sorry Roger!
