I can't be fucked reading 5 pages of comments...could someone just summarise what the announcement in one sentence and not include an opinion on the actual announcement, just the facts......ta very much lol[/QUOTE]
lol - Queen tour with Adam Lambert next year. Official news. I had an idea slightly before the announcement because I know someone who works at the Hydro in Glasgow who phoned me to say they had been enquiring about the venue for 2014.

That's interesting, it would suggest a full arena tour. What is even more interesting is that the band them selves have contacted a venue, as tours on that level are usually left to the promoter to book, and usually each venue is booked under the promoters name, only once the details and dates of the tour are finalized then the Artists name is attached to the dates.

^ I'm sorry if I led you to the conclusion that it was the *band* that made the enquiry personally. I was told that there had been an enquiry, but that's all - no names lol. And please bear in mind it's only an enquiry: at the moment, there is nothing to confirm nor deny that they will be playing said venue. It could mean they are planning a full tour, but then again it could mean selected venues. Let's not jump the gun :)
Not aimed at you personally VH, but that's a good example of how one piece of information can snowball into a whole set of stories that might not necessarily be true. A misconception that leads to another misconception, then some hazy info passed on and on until we believe that we were promised something and never got it!!

Interesting. From the comments I've seen, most people are assuming the tour will be a few dates in North America because of the iHeart success. However, if they are enquiring about a venue in the UK, then they might be looking at a UK tour or maybe a larger tour on both sides of the pond?

someonewholikesadam is the only one here who likes Adam. Fitting
As apathetic as I am towards Adam Lambert singing Queen songs, I would attend a show if I could. It's Brian and Roger, I can't argue with that. It's nice that they're still doing live ventures, regardless of the motive - it's just a shame they seem to be sticking to the same material they're comfortable with, and performing with people who can't do justice to the brilliant music B & R were a part of making.

I'm trying to figure this out - is Marc Martel secretly an asshole and Brian can't stand him, or something? Hiring AL again makes as much sense as Ritchie Blackmore recording albums with his wife.

If you start working with someone - whether Paul Rodgers or Adam Lambert - you have to let that arc play out. So I don't see them ditching Adam for anybody else until it's time to part ways with Adam (plus a decency period).
And I for one will view Adam as a decent enough vehicle to see Brian and Roger again (as I did when they played Hammersmith with him, enjoying that night immensely).

yes both ideas are bonkers - but that's where the similarity ends.
there's no way that the Queen+AL arrangement will produce anything near as good as Blackmore's Knight, and RB seems finally happy doing what he's doing
i strongly suspect that BM will always be a curmudgeonly embittered and miserable old man who'll die riddled with resentful jealously at the talent of the bandmate who died in 1991

Marc Martel and the Queen Extravaganza represent the legacy sound of Queen. I will pay to see them, I will not pay see yet another interpretation ie. Adam Lambert of Queen songs.

I'm thinking that touring the US with AL and also setting up QE over there are efforts at stimulating interest in the band before the release of a single (or singles) and an album with MJ. And I would think there is little doubt that anything with Jacko on it could see himself and the Queen name back on top of the charts over there. The sales would be significant despite downloads, and it would set the US up for the release of the Freddie movie as well. And as a result, QE could then also be touring over there for many years too. Then at least to some extent, Queen would get back the US, which they mainly lost in the 80's, They would then be able to sit back and watch all this moolah come in from over there , not to mention the rest of the planet!

hahaha ^^^ sorry, but not a chance of the combination working in the charts over there. can't see that kind of quirky collaboration working in the uSA - esp when it's doing nothing more than
some shitty little outtakes that weren't good enough to release at the time they were recorded. this is little more than raking over the long-cold coals of two well-cremated - and ritually flogged t dead horse(s)

Point taken about the quality of the outtakes BrENsKi, although they have some pretty decent technology there these days, so I will be interested to see what the finished versions sound like. That's if and when we get them, as I would think that the Jackson estate would be more likely to pull the plug on things if Brian and Roger and the producer they hired can't get the stuff to come up to their satisfaction.
Beyond that, I would have thought that the MJ name (rather than Queen) might still be capable of selling a few records in the US, especially if it is viewed as a new release now that MJ is dead. Having said that, time moves on, so its hard to say how long things will continue on like they were immediately after he checked out.
Also if people over there do view it as quirky or oddball as you say, then I guess they may not take to it all that much. Even so, if the reworkings sound good and different enough, then it might still be regarded as posthumously released "new" Jacko work, and that would have to help move things along a bit I would think.

Well it'd guarantee that Oprah might at least buy a copy.
