I know many people like/love Sleeping on the sidewalk. I don't like the way it is recorded, it sounds messy, would fit better on the Jazz album. Also the lyrics...something about a trumpet...
Brian sings like he will record his voice later again, but then better.

Probably be helpful if you read the lyrics. It's about a musician, not a trumpet. He is down on his luck, then is discovered by a record company, then his music goes out of fashion again and he becomes disillusioned by the music business and maybe also with being a musician. It's autobiographical in some respects. It also has a great blues vibe and cool solo, which shows Brian can play spontaneously in contrast to his usual structured compositions.

Please do not start a fight over this...in the end it is noting more than personal taste. And this page has already enough ridiculous fights.

Err.. no one is fighting. Am I not allowed to offer some insight into the song? Or would you prefer Queenzone to consist solely of lists of best and worst songs/albums etc., with no discussion?

There is no fight. I like the discussion about songs.

And, for the record, most of them were written by Mercury.

in a nutshell. that's the mystery of queen's establishment as a nit-making band - more than 50% of the singles released prior to the co-writing credits of the late 80s were Freddie's compositions - he was the one who knew how to write catchy brain-infectious songs.
I think is said this somewhere before: if you took ALL of the Mercury compositions from the first 3 albums - you have in essence the perfect rock album.

wow ^^^ you really don't like Roger's song-writing do you?
6 of your ten "worst" are Roger songs

6. Coming Soon 7. Fun It 8. Sleeping on the Sidewalk 9. Leaving Home Aint Easy 10. Seaside Rendezvous
8, 9 & 10 are three of my favourite Queen songs and the other two I would rate as good album tracks, if nothing special. 2. Fun it 3. A human body 4. Who wants to live forever 5. She makes me 10. Drowse
IMO 4 & 10 are among the best tracks Queen have produced, 3 is a really good b-side that is better than much of the filler album materal Queen produced in the 1980s, and the others are 2 & 5 are fine album tracks.
So the moral of this is .. there's no accountng for personal taste in music, so these best and worst lists are mainly pointless.

Well if you want songs that will endure for centuries, that's a different list. Tracks that made people famous are not necessarily the best.
I see what you're saying, but this asked for the "best'. Mind you, best is more or less subjective.
Indeed. But what makes a track enduring is its melody and accessibility, so what could be a more valid criteria for "best" than that?
My Fairy King is a great track. But what does it have that Bohemian Rhapsody or Killer Queen doesn't have, and better?

...which is essentially what happened. What you're hearing is take 1. They did many more takes, but they all lost the spontaneous feel and sounded too calculated.
The question is - is the lead vocal from this first take? I don't think they ever clarified that, or did they?
