i don't understand how that many people dislike a song like "dancer". it's superb!

I'd say the song is average at best, but Brian's guitar orchestration is definitely one of his best. Had they taken a similar approach to Staying Power, I'd say the fortunes of Hot Space would've been quite a bit different, because the first song on an album really does set the pace for what's to come.

But hindsight is always 20/20, isn't it ?

Yes i love "Dancer" its a pity that song never became a single release because it has a bit of everything for us Queenies,
a good Deacy bass line, some fancy Brian guitar playing, some great Freddie vocals and a nice drum beat by rog!
i much prefer Hot Space to the awful innuendo album or made in heaven.

What makes you think Innuendo and Made In Heaven are so awful? Especially in comparison with Hot Space.

Gerry
the bassline was played on a synth - an Oberheim - by Dr May.

so how do you manage to call it a "good deacy bass line" when it's neither played on a bass nor by Deacy?

I'd still like to hear what you think since I fail to share the same opinion regarding Innuendo & MIH. Perhaps you could convince me to change my thoughts.

Well innuendo and made in heaven have a very dark morbid atmosphere to them.
Hot space is fun and Freddie is enjoying fiddling around with styles and tempos,
dragging Brian, John, and Roger along for the ride, and i love it when Queen
start getting out of there comfort zones.
Innuendo they had lost the plot by the time this got released and they seemed
to be in a rut thinking oh" we will add a few rock songs on and play safe as Hot Space didnt work,
but to be honest with the exception of " Headlong" the rest of the album was not as high class
as we know Queen can be with songs.
Made in Heaven was dark, and you could tell that death was lingering around especially
on Mother love which i never play as its too upsetting.
infact i dont even touch the Made in Heaven cd anymore.
I love Queen2 and ANATO & NOTW!

Fair enough.

To be honest I find MIH a rather light album with an exception of Mother Love. Songs like Heaven For Everyone, It's A Beautiful Day, A Winter's Tale, TMLWKY are anything but dark imo.

well i mean fancy including "too much love will kill you" when it had killed freddie!
A winters tale was freddies last time to look over at the lake geneva before passing away,
it was a very very sad album in my opinion.
