i like the fact that someone genuinely deemed "blurred vision" song enough to include in a worst list.
so now, we're basically including instrumental remixes of established songs...just to warrant a place on a list
that would barely have made "10" without it
Kuijpy · Member since
Yeah brENsKi? Problem with that?
It's mine flop 10, so who are u to say something about it?
princetom · Member since
i don't understand how that many people dislike a song like "dancer". it's superb!
of course you cannot compare it with all those early beauties. and there's nothing like a "queen II" !
but the song itself -in spite of the context of its release (hot space, that is)- stands out for being a very well done experiment in the dance genre.
i like to play it every now and then. it's fun.
and i think it's more listenable and less conservative (!) than pop songs like "i want to break free" which i rather title... well, kind of boring. by todays standards...
...or radio ga ga. loved it back then... but cannot stand it anymore... environmentally played to death! every time i want to clap hands, i listen to tom waits... :-)
same to WWRY. yes nice treatments. but same old, same old. (except maybe for roger's interpretations 94/98. wish they would do something similar in their queen shows t'day!)
WATC. what a beautiful song originally. but i hardly can stand it listening from beginning till the end.
cannot talk about a concrete "worst song" list.. because there's so many originally beautiful songs of them that were played to death...
so i'll continue with a list which features the most beautiful, and imho. timeless songs (and most played by me) of their repertoire...
1. white queen (with piano of course)
2. millionaire waltz ("how we danced and played"... woooohaaaa!)
3. good company (nice treatment!)
4. hard life (as a crowning glory of the pop-era of queen's)
5. march of the black queen (who doesn't love THAT original version of BoRhap ? :-)
6. tenement funster (for offering a personal view of roger's!)
7. my fairy king
8. great king rat
9. scandal 12'' (another well done pop treatment!)
10. seaside rendezvous (dude... !)
(xx. warboys (! i really like it !) the samples in between make me shiver from time to time! )
(of course... this is a spontaneous list. may alter here and there by the ages of time :-)
worst...
hum. at least not played by me:
everything on flash gordon (you may chose yourself). except for "the kiss"(rules big time!) and "football...something".
don't get me wrong... it may be good music. but not casual listenable. is it ? furthermore most of "hot space"... c'mon... the money for the studio rent wasn't really worth their output in the early 80s, was it? not my favourite queen-era as you may notice.
on the other side... "the song for lennon" was great... and "put out the fire" would have been a great song if it had gotten a royal treatment... "back chat"... *wrrrr*. no thanks. "action this day". i wish it had some serious action. "staying power". not staying forever...
but as i said... "dancer"... welcome occasionally. funny little thing. and the sample never gets boring :-)

I know many people like/love Sleeping on the sidewalk. I don't like the way it is recorded, it sounds messy, would fit better on the Jazz album. Also the lyrics...something about a trumpet...
Brian sings like he will record his voice later again, but then better.
sleeping on the sidewalk is a most easy number to get on yourself. and it's really fun playing it! love it for that reason! and yes... it's about a musician being fooled by the business. and he doesn't care any way... thematically kind of reminds me on queen's 1975, doesn't it ? so legitimated. :-)

Well if you want songs that will endure for centuries, that's a different list. Tracks that made people famous are not necessarily the best.
I see what you're saying, but this asked for the "best'. Mind you, best is more or less subjective.
Indeed. But what makes a track enduring is its melody and accessibility, so what could be a more valid criteria for "best" than that?
My Fairy King is a great track. But what does it have that Bohemian Rhapsody or Killer Queen doesn't have, and better?
True, true. When it comes down to it, you are right in saying that the songs that will last forever are tracks from the Greatest Hits albums (mainly GH1, I'd guess).

you miss my point - "Blurred" isn't really a song...it's a mish mash of samples and instrumental passages over a computer/dance loop...can't imagine anyone calling that an actual SONG

Great to see
Was it all worth it
in many of the top lists! One of my faves!
Overall it is fantastic to see how different Queen's catalogue gets reviwed by all the people here.
