Apparently it is. For Queen that was originally the plan I think - a 10-12 CD box with ALL the single versions, b-sides, remixes, edits etc. We all know what we got :)

With a book and DVD with music videos, it's hard to do this?
Jesus you sure like having cds that are barely used. What is the sense of having cds with 5 songs on it???? What a waste of money and materials that would be.

What's the point of a 13CD box where the discs aren't even half filled? Apart from the higher possible price tag, of course.

You guys have obviously not bought the Queen single boxes

We have some singles collections, like depeche mode, each cd is a single, really nice collection, it's 6 boxes, as a remember now, 1 box with 13 cds, i think worth it, but needs beautiful box, not that shit of queen's singles collection.

Another that i remember to do a singles colllection it's Morrissey

10 CDS each box, but years later, he put each box, and put on 3CD version, well, if this happen with Freddie singles, will be really nice.

(Why 'Rotwangs Party' isn't on the B-side might be because they couldn't get the rights, or because it simply wasn't a Freddie Mercury track. )
As always, the reason is money.
Instead of making the box a faithful replica of all the singles, they are keeping that 3.85% share of Giorgio Moroder all for themselves.
It's sad that a few thousand dollars is enough money to make QP ruin yet another release.

I don't like to think of those numerous posthumous hideous dance remixes of his work as being anything to do with Freddie either...

Why everybody afraid of compressed sound?
I certainly understand that there are fans of the warm tube sound without the compression and other modern trends. But apparently without it anywhere.
Because each and every recent Queen related released have been compressed at best, and brickwalled at worst.
Digital compression simply butchers the sound and crushes audio dynamics. Hating it has nothing to do with prefering "the warm tube sound".
well, but what we will do with those people who likes modern sound after remaster?
I don't understand how anyone can enjoy listening to an album where the music has been compressed to death and there's no dynamic range. It's fatiguing to the ears. And it doesn't sound natural.
Listen to this song from Metallica's "Death Magnetic" album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Nfqpr3ygSg It jumps between the compressed as heck CD vs the uncompressed Guitar Hero 3 version. You can hear the unnatural sound of the drums and the brittle sound on the high end while the GH3 version sounds more natural, almost like you're hearing them play it in the studio.

Basically just putting almost everything which was ever released by Freddie on the market again - but not as new compilations - just as extended/deluxe editions of the original albums.
Those releases would be great for someone who never snagged the Freddie solo box. But for someone like me who's had that set since it was released, those sets would be just the same to me as this "Messenger of the Gods" CD set is. The issue is that Freddie had a very limited solo career meaning there's a limit as to how much they can do with the material. I think the vinyl set is a nice inclusion for fans of the medium. But, with them going that route, it would have been cool if they had reissued his three solo albums on vinyl too.
As for why they haven't reissued the rarities from the box set for newer fans, my only guess is that they don't want to cheapen either the integrity and/or collect-ability of the box set, which still remains the best Queen-related product ever released, in my opinion.

They won't rerelease it because it won't sell according to their standards/price summit.
That's why it never got an official USA Release. I was a poor high school kid. Couldn't afford it.
I guess I could track one down now. I remember they had multiple prints of the liner notes available for true fans of Freddie.
You're right; it WAS the greatest thing QPL has released since Freddie's passing (with the exception ofMADE IN HEAVEN)
21 years. That's VERY sad. At least The Rainbow finally came out
