I don’t care how insecure it may seem, but as a straight male, I can’t bring myself to wearing a QUEEN T-shirt, despite the fact that I truly love the group

Well, I can't find any Queen t-shirts. :-( However, I think the chances may be getting better, since my local Hot Topic got in some David Bowie (finally!) and The Doors t-shirts, two musical acts the store never showcased. (as well as some new Zep shirts; they only had like two before) They even have some Beatles shirts now, and Queen is far more hip and beloved around here than The Beatles are.

I'm only embarrassed when I'm caught singing "It's A Hard Life" off-key in the shower.

This is just silly, what country do you live in? Here everybody of course knows Freddie was gay but I'm wearing my Queen T-shirts proudly and never experienced any bad reaction; in fact most people admire the T-shirt as it's really nice. Queen are still very popular here anyway.

FriedChicken - I'm attending B+R gigs just to see legends in action before it's too late. I may think that the drums are shit or that Zoe shouldn't sing at a rock gig but I still love clapping my hands during GaGa :)

It doesn't embarrass me to the extent that it erks me about Queen being remember as the band that 'that gay guy sung in, eh?' *sigh* Uneducated saps.

Delilah is actually embarrassing. I can feel my cheeks goin red every time I hear it...and I'm not easily disturbed. And I love cats, have one myself!

Can´t see how a song like that makes it on a otherwise classic album, when others didn't.

Perhaps Freddies illnes had something to do with it. I mean, maybe the other guys didn't want to put it down. Don't want to be disrespectful but...

Someone who doesn't dare to walk around in a Queen T-shirt because of the link between Queen and queens, isn't entirely secure in his manhood...

...or maybe he just hasn't got bad taste in clothes.

Mr. Scully.
I live in New York where, when you are walking down the street in Manhattan, wearing a T-shirt with QUEEN written on it, automatically most of the people assume that you are trying to make a point about your sexual orientation. I know it may seem funny to Europeans but that’s how things are here.

I agree that Deliah is a little embarassing...I am in the process of getting my friends into liking Queen, and while having my friend listen to some Queen..he heard the meowing part of Deliah and yelled "what the fuck?!"

Shvili - is it because "Queen" is similar to "queer" or because everybody knows that Freddie was gay or ...?

Scully, please don't say you don't/didn't know that 'queen' is another word for 'a camp/gay man'? That would just be unbelievable.

Why do you think Fred said "of course I was aware of the connotations..." when asked about how he came up with the band's name?

Here's what dictionary.com has to say about it:

"Queen (noun)
(6)Offensive Slang. Used as a disparaging term for a homosexual man."

I get embarrassed that Queen is sometimes known as a pop band rather than the hard rock/metal band I fell in love with. The "Greatest Hits" CDs that just contain the Top 40 singles don't help.

And I'll wear a Queen shirt just so I can spite the people that don't remember what a hard rock force Queen were here in the US in the '70s. If anyone is actually dumb enough to say they're a "gay band" I'd have to laugh and then pick apart the stupid bands they listen to.

PEOPLE STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What embarasses me most of all is the 'gay' discussion about Queen among people and especially among fans. Who decided that Queen (I mean the group itself and their creative activity) is a "gay group", even a little bit????????????????????????????????
Freddie's sexual preferences were his private business and THAT'S ALL. Neither his solo nor Queen's music/lyrics/videos have NOTHING to do with the gay world at all! Freddie & Queen simply invented their OWN UNIQUE style and their creative activity was always of a UNIVERSAL APPEAL. It is opened for various audience (no matter what age, sex, nation, race, religion, society class, ocupation, sexual orientation, political addiction, music tastes you are of). That is the seret of Queen's great success and the reason for having millions of fans all around the world (whose number grows annually)!!!
Besides, normal people should be interested in artist's work and career but not in his bed-matters...
Kiss my ass if I am not right!..............
