I'd hope that most fans don't think of Queen as a gay band. But other people who don't really know anything about Queen just assume that the entire band was gay, either because of Freddie or because of how 'glam' or 'over-the-top' they were. And a lot of people dismiss the band because they think they were gay, although I don't know what sexual preference has to do with the music.

Sama here. I live in Finland, which I don't think has anything to do with it. When I was younger, I was even embarassed to check out Queen records in the store (!).

Hahaha... I was the same. I remember as a little kid, I had to save up loads of money, so that I could buy lots of CDs at the same time as I bought one Queen CD, as I thought the others would somehow divert the attention away from the fact I was buying a CD which said "Queen" on it...
And, of course, I considered it really uncool to like anything not current. At the time, I was into crappy chart pop music.
I'm obviously over that phase now. But I still can't wear a t-shirt with their name branded all over it. Even as a chick. I still wear the natty 'Guaranteed To Blow Your Mind' tee I got from WWRY, though. Even if it is just ever so slightly lame.

The only thing that was embarassing to me was back at the times when people still judged others for their gayness. Which is I mean the most ridiculous argument of all, the argument that denotes denial of one´s own homosexuality. WE are free people, free to ourselves and to this world, we ain´t supposed to be the same and to act the same. What is normal to majority automatically gets the stamp of being "normal", but what doesn´t fit to this "majority" is so-called "weird, unnormal". Yet, Freddie came along to this world to show us a big difference between what´s good or bad, normal and unnormal, glorious or disgracelful. He brought us the message in the bottle, that we shouldn´t look upon the poeple in this "meassurement" way. As we are all good or bad, according to what we do and how we act. Thus, the gays are as much honourable people as the rest. Freddie was the real prophet of his time I believe. He showed us, there´s nothing to be embarassed about, cos it´s always about human kindness, not about the differences between us, not about the things that part us, but things that unite us, exactly like Queen!

This shows you don't listen to opera music. Sorry, but this is actually the famous "Vesti la gibba" line from the opera "I Pagliacci" by Puccini. So I don't think you should be embarrassed by that, it's a piece of nice classical music (btw, Fred himself loved the opera).
P.S. Don't think I'm some kind of scientist, I read it in the booklet from the GH boxed set...

Freddie thought me how to love it and to say that this part of It´s a hard life sounds embarrassing, is something that I disagree with. Why should it be embarrassing? Puccinni is a classic, his operas are the most wonderful I´ve heard, I even cried when listening to them. Ridi Pagliacci is one of the most beautiful pieces the world will ever know. And if you know the story behind the opera, then you should know it´s heartbreaking story of teo lovers. It has to sound dramatic, if the main hero, Pagliacci, kills his fiance our of jealousy. No?

Nothing really embarrasses me about Queen. However Roger Taylor's Vocals always get a reaction when a mate in my Car.
For example; Don't Stop me Now from Live Killers at one point Roger goes 'oooooOOOOOoooooo'. We all started doing imitations of him, LOL.

I guess, in English speaking countries, where the word QUEEN has other meanings besides “Female Monarch”, Queen is losing a lot of coins due to low sales of their secondary merchandise like clothing, posters, bumper/stickers….etc. I know that the choice of this name was Freddie’s eccentric idea, and I respect and support it with all my hurt, but from purely commercial point of view........wrong move.

Bohardy, seriously, I've always thought it was because of the "queen" - "queer" similarity.
(I know shit about English slang :-)

I wish everyone could see how much of a phenomenon Queen was. I know Queen is very famous in a lot of places, but not as much where I live.
Shows you how narrowminded a lot of people are when it comes to Freddie and Queen!
So true! Where I live, not only are people narrowminded this way, but they either don't know who Freddie is or worse they immediately dislike him because of where he was born!
