If all you got as reference for the live recordings is Live Killers, I agree (to a point). But get your hands on these and you'll sing a different tune - I promise:
1: Milton '82
2: Budapest '86
3: Koln '74
4: Japan 1975... I forgot the date on that one.

IMO Freddie's best vocal performances were during the Crazy Tour, he's in incredible voice on the shows I've heard so far, much better than he was during the Live Killers tour earlier in the same year.

One thing worth noting is that Freddie actually sang live, unlike modern artists who use pre-recorded tapes and lip sing to help themselves sing better. I would never pay money to go to a show to watch some fuck sing to the tape. I'd rather watch Freddie 'fuck up' all night long, though he rarely did, than watch some dip shit lip sing flawlessly.

Some Queen fans take things too damn seriously. Freddie was human, and like one he (rarely) made mistakes while singing live. So what if we make fun of his "vocal malfuncitions" a bit.

Anyway, to everyone getting so defensive...a singer can't perform thousands of shows and never make mistakes, unless they're a robot. It's just physically impossible to be perfect with those odds. Freddie was an amazing singer and performer, but even he makes mistakes!

I consider freddie to be the best.Maybe paul rodgers is always in tune,but to me he fucked up Bohemian Rhapsody at the end(I don't know if he does that in every concert but it surely was in antwerp),he wanted to impress people but he lost the right emotion and just ruined that great version.Freddie knew very good to play with words during his songs.Always at the right time he would sing something(like during a kind of magic:a little bit of magic,everyone)the emotion you get is great.He did also sing very different songs during one show(staying power followed by somebody to love for example)he easily makes the switch.Paul for one can't sing as many different styles(like' a kind of magic 'proves)when his voice was great he was the absolute best(live aid,budapest,milton keynes,crazy tour especially newcastle and so many other great gigs where he is astounding).Another important thing is his incredible power:listen to the best versions of now I'm here and other rockers.At wembley he is far from great but still good enough.It's normal that his voice becomes tired.The best you can do is look at his tribute concert.Noone did it as good as freddie and they could choose whatever song they wanted.Robert Plant was really bad there!although I must admit there is probably only one man who can sing his songs like he does:-)

For those of you who are sports fans, Tiger Woods won the British Open on the weekend. He won the tournament by 5 shots, a rout against the worlds best golfers. He also hit a lot of really bad shots. The goal is to aim for perfection, to expect it and nitpick on the screwups is unfair. I somehow doubt that there's a topic on "Tiger's shot fuck-ups last weekend."

Anyway, he was only human, and his voice sucked on stage from time to time, that makes it even better hehehe :)

I haven't been here in a really long time. Where did all the Stepford fans come from? Did the other site throw up and leave them all here or something?

Freddie was a great singer and a great entertainer. Of course he always sounded perfect on the studio records since he had the possibility to do the various takes over and over until he found the way his vocals sounded perfect. But live it's always a different story. Due to permanent touring and stress on the vocal chords his voice was not always in perfect shape. What should Freddie do these nights? Should he cancel the concert and let his fans down? No. Instead he faced the challenge and overcame his fears of not being able to hit the right note everytime. In fact very brave. Naturally on these nights you'll hear some different singing than on the nights he was in good shape. But when he was having a good night it was perfect and Freddie always knew to represent the songs in a slightly different live rendition. Most nights he was great in my opinion.
