Rare Share: Queen Collectibles... Why the negativity?

Hello happy joyful Queenzone. It's been ages since I was here. So long, that I forgot my password and old email address - so I had to rejoin... Hence the slight name change.

Anyway... Once again several people here are finding negatives and sinister hidden agendas (where there are none) in a simple and genuinely intended YouTube channel venture Gary T and I are setting up. These people could find something underhand and generally bad in a new born baby!!

I'm always baffled at the tendency here to sway towards perceiving everything as having dark and secret motives. Gary and Greg surely must have some hidden secret agenda, right? We couldnt be doing it just because we are big fans and we love Queen memorabilia - having both been collectors since the 1970s.

Apparently, according to some bright spark here, it's us being lazy and getting you guys to send us all your information for free. Or else it's QPL planning a cunning way of getting the fans to show us what they've got. Like we don't all know already what exists out there from a million fan site web pages.

Well... No! It's none of the above. There's no clever ploy afoot, nothing sinister to debate until the cows come home or die of boredom reading this tired old predictable drivel. No, it's none of that rubbish. It is very simply two fans offering a forum for likeminded Queen fans to show and share their most interesting and significant treasures with fellow fans. Is that so hard to fathom.

If you don't want to look or contribute, that's fine. It's not compulsory. It's just something different to do, if you fancy it. If you don't, then no one has lost or gained anything.

This QZ forum has THE most suspicious and negative and mean-spirited fans of any other site. Can't the negative doom-mongers among you, just once, just for one little moment, look at this in a positive light. Regard it as something fun and interesting and constructive. Bring something good and intriguing to the table, instead of trying to knock it and cast unnecessary doubt and shadows. Certain people's tedious assertions here couldn't be wider of the mark if they tried... As usual, let's be honest.

Gary and I knew that QZ would be the place that would have people thinking the worst right from the off. And so it is.

Rare Share is a good thing for Queen fans. It's not about QPL or Gary or Greg being lazy. On the contrary... We got off our arses and did something for Queen fans. We offered something, conceived and created something new, brought something to the table... Which no one else here thought to do. 'Some' of you were the ones who did the easy thing.... The lazy thing.... You just reverted back to complain and moan mode again, and being suspicious. THAT is lazy. What we're doing, good or bad or total disaster, is at least us having a decent genuine Go!

Give it a chance, and for goodness sake cheer up and come away from the dark sinister path you love so much here. Some of you (not all) need to get out more.... to more happy and vibrant 'fan' sites I mean! This one has made too many of you decidedly jaded and cynical. Isn't it time for just the tiniest change in attitude here??

Sorry Greg, but the company you represent is full of arrogant bastards who manage the estate of the Queen only interested in maximum profit with minimal effort and a very stupid way ... I´m 49 years old and Queen fan from 1978, but into today I can´t to buy any official concert video (or new full audio) with Freddie without moustache ... WHY????

I think it's just a case of Brian underestimating what people are willing to pay for. He's mentioned the bad image quality of the 70's gigs before as being a factor - who cares? The fact that Georges Méliès' film "Le Voyage dans la lune" isn't in colour 1080p doesn't stop it from being a worthy buy.

Gigs in the 70's were shot on shitty videotape. We don't care, Brian. Get that stuff out the door.

As to the rare Queen stuff channel - I don't know why anyone has a problem either way. It's obviously not a subject matter that'll do it for everyone, but it's nothing to get upset about.

Go on then, I'll bite, as you obviously mention purely to get a reaction: I'm not quite sure Greg how you can expect us to take a view on the quality of 'the amazing new Rainbow project' when we have no details about it.

We'll all hope however that it is a fantastic fault free project (unlike most of the other items you name that have borne your name somewhere and contains either massive and obvious, or lesser but still equally annoying, errors).

As long as the stuff on the new channel is as interesting and insightful as the stuff QPL have so politely threatened other people to take down I don't see a problem. I certainly am not going to comment on content before having seen it like a lot of people here do. That would be ridiculous.

Experience tells me I will be slightly underwhelmed though....

People over there have expressed the [b]EXACT[/b]  same reservations about intentions, the point of the project, and confusion about no rare audio/video media being shown. Why you need to come on here and try to draw some distinction in attitude between here and anywhere else is beyond me.

Read the thread on QOL, and sort your own backyard before you come over here talking crap. Contact the mods @ QOL and ask them how often they delete negative comments,not just bad language and dumb posts about Aids, I think you would be surprised.

You are in for some sharp education too when you get the channel up and running if you are managing the comments section, You-tubers can be real nasty fuckers, but sure you can blame it all on QZ.... ;)[b]

Why don't "I personally" like the idea of the "Rare share" channel :

1. It is absolutely pointless. It reminds me on all the videos of 35 year old nerds living in their parents basement showing proudly their huge Star Wars collection.
2. I just don't see a reason for creating videos of "static objects". Wouldn't a website be much more appropriate for the type of things you are trying to achieve? You know, something wikipedia-style where users can create the content ? Or a book ? Similar to the book which was announced many years ago but never was released ?
3. Why can't the users upload e.g. their live videos ? You know, there are many people on various places of the planet who own Queen-related concerts which you don't have in the archives, this would be a nice opportunity for them to upload some samples, don't you think ? There are also many people on this planet who own perfect photos shot live during Queen concerts, this would be a perfect opportunity to share them somehow (imagine a slideshow of never seen before pictures synchronized with a rare audience recording from the same concert). Also what about some TV reports ? So that you can rip them from youtube in 240p and use them for your next Bluray ? :-)

Honestly, you can do anything you luck and I wish you guys good luck. However this project is definitely not interesting for me, so you can't expect me to be excited. But I'm sure there are people who will like it

Storm in a teacup, as usual. The website isn't for me, but I can see some people liking it. More treading water really.

But we're still back to square one on the genuinely interesting topic -- when might Queen stop re-releasing stuff and instead give fans what they want: 1970s concerts & rarities collections. As for the Rainbow box set, I'll believe it when I see it. I might even buy it if they don't make a horse's arse out of it. I suspect many fans are now so jaded waiting for early material they will only buy it if it's exceptionally interesting, well-packaged etc. Just sticking the Queen label on anything and hoping it will sell just isn;t enough for me any more.
