The MJ Estate is fraught with lawsuits. They sue people, people sue them. Any involvement at all with them is risky. The Quincy Jones lawsuit is a enough warning to anyone to stay the hell away. Lawsuit also just settled with Lloyds of London.
Roger is right. They shd be very cautious in working with them to get the three FM/MJ tracks..[/QUOTE]
...not to mention that the FM+MJ tracks are really not that good.

Let's not be coy about it; they're fucking awful. I'll always enjoy the slight novelty of hearing a Freddie recording with a new bit of polish on it, but I'd rather get that from tracks where I won't feel like I have Oprah crying right over my shoulder.
Hence - fuck off with the MJ shit.

Indeed. Couldn't care less about a Queen + FM + Michael Jackson version of There Must Be More To Life Than This - and care about State Of Shock even less.

Stating that the FM & MJ tracks are going to be rubbish now is a bit presumptuous isn't it? The experience of hearing the positive big differences between Freddie solo versions and Made In Heaven versions of I Was Born To Love You and Made In Heaven should be a lesson. Equally, Living on my Own was an ok song that was royally fucked up by a remix, so whilst that is a negative pov, it emphasises how different a song can sound if radically reworked and rearranged.
Let's just wait and see eh?

lol you're trying to tell people from Queenzone that?! I've talked like that for years and it's never taken.
You can always come to Queenzone to remind you that life is never as bad as some Queenzoners' :P

By "awful" I would mean "I don't like MJ's voice on the versions I've heard". THAT possibly isn't rescuable but a great Queen instrumental framework could still be very good. Or just avoid MJ's vocals and use those from Mr Bad Guy. :-)

Freddie's tunes were decent to good songs with good vocal performances - the only problem was the shit backing tracks, and the other lads fixed that.
The MJ songs are just shite. Brian and Roger can do all of the overdubs they like, but it's asking a lot to say that they can make a shit idea into a good one. I mean you're right in saying that judgement ought to be reserved, but honestly those MJ tracks would need an almost total reinvention. Like, seriously - new lyrics and all. *shrug*

To be honest I'd rather have a Queen version of "There must be more to life than this". They can have one MJ-collaboration on the record just for the publicity and attention it brings. MJ is in my opinion one of the most overrated artists ever.

Perhaps there were other vocal takes that were not leaked. If they have the multi-tracks of the sessions I'm sure there's more there than what was on youtube

I totally agree with you, skip all the MJ stuff. I think without him sounds much better.
Or bring out a single There must be more to life...FM/MJ with 2 bonus songs , one version Queen only, one version MJ only.

Indeed - I'm sure the leaked versions we have heard will be one of the rough working mixdowns that happened to be on the cassette the 'leakee' got hold of. There will undoubtedly be other takes available to Brian & Roger, and along with the software, plugins, etc etc.. at their disposal, the end results could be improved dramatically.
I am hoping that they edit it appropriately enough so that this comes out very much as a Queen product with MJ guesting in small parts, rather than a solid 50/50 Queen + MJ joint collaboration (although marketing may make it seem that way).

He was fucking great when he was redlining it. But he's not in these songs. I've said it a million times, there's no place in music for his naff 'feed the world save the children' crap. It's noxious to even listen to.

As an aside, I'd just like to add that I think that 'There Must Be More To Life Than This' is one of Freddie's stronger solo tracks, and I can't wait to hear what Brian and Roger (and hopefully John too if an early Queen version exists) have done to the backing track, regardless of what part of Jackson's vocals they leave on!

I think you have MJ on there for the US, because I reckon there are heaps of people that will listen to this album because of the odd MJ duet. That's a quality/sales tradeoff that's well worth taking if it gets the US substantially listening to Queen again and the MJ stuff is sufficiently limited, which it sounds like it will be.
