Definitely gonna be a rock musical with more theater than ever. This would suit both Queen (especially Brian) and AL. I think this tour is just for fun and not meant to be taken too seriously musically. Some of it, though, is good. See how it goes...

I find the title of this thread to be questionable. As princetom said above "an interpretation of a song" that's all this is, it has nothing at all to do with sexuality. Shame some of you can't see that.
Take a look at Big Spender from Hammersmith 1975, Freddie does a striptease while wearing a kimono! Homosexual? No. Performance? Yes.
Arse.

I agree - the title of this thread is bordering on homophobic. I wasn't too keen on Adam Lambert, but I think yesterday's interpretation of Killer Queen was good. It certainly doesn't deserve all the criticism it is getting here. It was a bit "gay clichéd", so to speak, but not too much,

Some people here are acting like Freddie Mercury purists... as if he is the only gay man who could possibly front Queen.

Growing rather tiresome to read those who love to use this word in headers/posts. Time to grow up.

'Camp' fits. Bad camera work fits. Go to youtube and check out some of the old Sweet vids. Very camp. Yet, their fame increased afterwards.

Agree.... Queen fans using the word 'gay' as an insult. I think the ones who do are just too fucking stupid to realise what they are saying...

This is horrible.
Basically blind em and deaf em in the first 10 minutes, and while they are recovering from that put in the less good songs

Its sad to say this: Queen Extravaganza > Queen + Adam Lambert

He is chanelling a bit of Army of Lovers attitude here.
Too gay is what i thought too. On the other hand during the iHeartRadio concert he was not camp at all.
I think he is experimenting and that is good even if sometimes crosses the line of "acceptable taste" ( even if there is such a thing)

On the other hand Mercury did that too but in a more homoerotic less camp sort of way. For example ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9E-WasNzVpI

Tranny Bulesque, what a male, gay or otherwise, dressed in trousers and and a jacket is not a tranny.

As for what Freddie was doing in the 70's, semi balletic posses in various leotard, toasting the audience with Moet and throwing roses from the stage. What the hell is the difference.

As for as the tranny comment. I think you'll find the four members of Queen did just that in the video for I Want To Break Free!

Yes, I do know what a tranny is, but it just seemed to fit this 'performance' style. Also, IWTBF is not tranny - just camp.

With Freddie, everything he did on stage was just like a happy extension of his personality. It was outrageous, it was camp, but it was very natural and easy going. This show on the other hand seems very contrived and heavily stage managed. It feels as though Queen is trying just waaay too hard to get that Freddie feeling. And failing!

well, darlings,
whatever you say.
i like it!

it is what it is. an interpretation of a song by a great guest singer. well done, imho. .
i guess the singing could be done a bit more to the point. hey, but that was premiere night.

yes. it's camp. what's the matter ?
it's a show. and it's for an american audience. so this shall be ok.
did anybody ever listen to the lyrics, anyway ?

nobody claims about the sage set being gold instead of black and white... that's a very odd thing, too, isn't it ? full of decadence... how dare they ? !

so if Glambert is interpreting a song by it's character, what's wrong ? it's his kind of thing. that's simply how he does it. imho.
THIS is better than most of paul rodgers' appearances.
just fun. nothing too serious, though. take it or leave it.

and... guys... you're complaining about something queen has done in the 70 and somehow lost in the 80s... unusual stage performance...

Yep! Princetom's got it right. Anyone who just complained about that clip are all forgetting that Queen shows are fun, outrageous (nude bicyclists? Superman?) and intended to be theatre. Please don't let it challenge your sexuality. You sound ridiculous criticizing others having a good time. I hope you learn your manners and next time simply say "it's not for me, for I don't understand it". And it's sad you don't. I genuinely hope that one day you will, 'cuz life's a lot more fun that way.

He's just fucking awful.

There's no artistry in his campness.

He might as well be a 3rd rate drag act from Wigan.
No Freddie, No John.....No Queen

After seeing that video they should just call it a day and concentrate on archive releases, instead of allowing Lambert to play up to his legions of fans that are obviously there to see him and not Queen!

As much I disliked Paul Rodgers at the time, at least he did stuff in his own style rather than a forced OTT parody of dear Fred.

Queen don't need Lambert to be great, and I'm sure he's doing well enough for himself anyway.
My heart got hijacked by you.......
Kacio wrote: Sorry he is complete idiot.
I LOVE it! What you are seeing there is classic Adam! And guaranteed every part of his outfit is something he re-engineered from his closet. That's one of the things we love about him!

I agree with every post on this thread, seriously! It is very theatrical and contrived, but not to get too excited becuz he will probably do something risque on every show. He likes burlesque and B&R like him and are willingly going along with his ideas. Will B&R see him in the realm of WWRY, or pushing boldly beyond? Regardess, they will no doubt approve of his performances. Short of shoving Brian's or Roger's head in his crotch, they will give him an unbridled nod.

Yeah, I would take Queen Extravaganza to this.

That is not a forced OTT parody of Freddie. That is classic Adam. He is singing Queen songs but being totally himself.
