I'll agree with "on my way up" about this live album being a welcome addition to average fans. For all we know this album could introduce new fans (or fans more familiar with Queen's 80's live performances) to Queen's earlier stuff, like what Live at the Rainbow did last year.

I'd still buy/download it even if the artwork is kinda shite, the setlist is almost the same as Rainbow, we'll never see the last two songs on video, and even if the goodies on the deluxe edition is just the replica of the balloons used that night (it'd be a real laugh if that happens). I'm happy enough to give that album a spot in my collection just to see and hear how Queen performed in the 70's. That said, I'm looking forward to more releases, especially Hyde Park, Earls Court (if possible), and a Live Killers box set with Hammersmith '79.

Positivity in the internet? You guys must be mad.

As for me, having grown with Live at Wembley, this Hammersmith show is a good release. I still expecting Tokyo '75 to be released at some point in the distant future, at least in audio, but meanwhile, the more 70's shows released the better.

Also, the future can be shiny, with the possible releases of Hyde Park, Earl's Court and Houston and maybe Paris or Hammersmith.

Other than Bo Rhap, how is Hammersmith significantly different from the double Rainbow release?

Thanks. Are there any Hammersmith song performances that differ significantly from the double Rainbow song performances?

^ it doesn't really matter at all, even if the set list is identical. It's one year later than Rainbow, different outfits, different vibe.

I was comparing my BBC Radio 1 recording from 1986 to the official release, it does sound quite different. There is a bit of a brutal edit towards the end where the BBC removed the Christmas reference.

Yep, that's how virtually every bootleg of the show ended up. All the Christmas references were edited out at some point, and it spread like wildfire. It wasn't until the 2000s that the unedited speeches began to appear.

The official release is the only complete version of the show. Gripe about autotune and fixes aside - it is complete.

I know that I am nit-picking but the words "Merry Christmas" have been removed from Freddie's speech after the Jailhouse Rock Medley on the 2015 official release for some unknown reason? The speech is available uncut and in stereo to edit in from the 2009 BBC2 TV broadcast should anyone wish to do so!

Oh ! Well, I stand corrected.

It is strange why they removed that particular reference.
I also find it odd that the bootleg ''BBC Young Jockey Edition'' has an absolutely perfect edit where the Christmas greeting was removed during SWAFIB.
It's like it was never there to start with, how did they manage that?

Then of course there is the matter of the Bob Harris intro being omitted almost entirely in the official release.

I shared my lossless (mono) copy of that the other day at the end of this thread should anyone want it:

Here is my nicam>flac transfer of Jailhouse Rock complete with Merry Christmas at the end:
