When i was 9 years old i discovered Queen, and when i attended secondary school most class mates mocked me as they were into Sex Pistols or The Police, but Queen were never in fashion.
One lad use to mock me about Queen as calling them a pack of poofs and that they all slept with each other etc.........
i was deterred and carried on my love for my fav band. i had the last laugh as in 1985 at Live Aid my beloved Queen stole the show!
Did you have any situations with family and friends about Queen?

Wow harsh reactions just because we loved Freddie & the boys back then!
I can recall Dj Janice Long say on radio one that she hated Queen and Tony Blackburn said in his autobiography he also did not like Queen.
What with the British press giving the band a hard time and in particular Freddie , Queen were probably the most hated band from the 1970s.

I was called gay. Very often. Decided it shouldn't bother me. I know people who went the other way. Stopped listening to Queen because they didn't like the gay connection.

Oligneisti : Yeah back then Queen were asked in a pop magazine here in the Uk called "NO1" if they were a gay band and Roger said no there were not.
We all know Freddie pushed the barriers as the years went on but he did do it with dignity and although he loved pretending he was a macho guy with the tache and leather
most people loved that look to his earlier costumes of ballet suits and pumps!
I think it was funny when Freddie would send people up by calling everyone "Darling" and he wasnt bothered if they were homophobic or what!
He even declared he was "As gay as a daffodil" Classic Fred.

My story takes place in 2012-2017 in a semi-rural Australian location, a Catholic school filled with snobby people was the best place to get mocked. People have said "Freddie deserved aids", the inappropriate hindsight "Freddie should've being more careful" and overall "Queen are shit" without giving me any reason. However, that didn't stop me for what I liked doing so I ignored them.

When I was in high school (76 or 77) two greasy pimply faced burnouts snatched one of my school pocket folders and wrote on it:
"Queen suck donkey dicks ... even the red ones." Fortunately they did not have time to draw "tasteful" illustrations.

Oh and many people in my school didn't take a particular liking to Freddie's personality but seem to respect Lil Wayne who a literacy level of a three year old.

Oh hell yeah!!!! Well, not mocked but I had to hear a lot of gay slurs about them. And this is going back to 1978 when I was just getting into them! I DEFENDED that band!!!!!

Yes that is always the case, idiots get more respect than intelligent figures, take the Gallagher brothers from Oasis, those two use to break in to folks houses and smash the places up,
Next minute they get called heroes but what for? They are only Beatle wannabes !
Freddie and the band were head and shoulders above other bands and it showed in there work and performances.

Jazz78 When my auntie had her silver wedding celebrations, the DJ was about to play a Queen record but before he did he made a homophobic remark about Freddie!
He said over the mic, "Isnt Freddie Mercury suppose to be a bit funny"
I nodded yeah and he shrugged his shoulders and played the record.
I have defended Freddie my entire life!
