He never said Adam was a better singer. He basically said that Adam is able to consistently nail the high notes live whereas Freddie usually wouldn't & couldn't go there in a live situation. And he is right, Adam is great at doing the high notes and he is in shape every night. That said, I'm not a fan of Adam and I don't particularly like the sound of his voice. I just wish people stopped bashing him, it gets old.

I don't know what to believe because I didn't saw Brian May saying that or saying what happystar said but I think people should stop bashing Adam too. I know in an interview Brian said : “People are going to say to us: ‘You know, is this really Queen without Freddie?,' “Well, I have no idea. I don’t know what the answer to that question is, but people want to hear Queen music and they want to hear it done great, and they want to have Roger and I play — and we love to play. So, having this opportunity is great.”
I think Adam Lambert hasn't got a voice as amazing as Freddie Mercury but he is a good singer too. It's cool that there are still Queen concerts today but if I've got choice between go to a concert of Queen and Freddie or of Queen and Adam Lambert I'll choose Queen and Freddie of course.

Chiefmouse: Does not mean Lambert is a better singer than Freddie because he can screech a high note. Freddie brought the roof down at Wembley Arena for Live Aid back in 1985 and it was his greatest performance to date. Lambert is still a novice and a very different sort of singer to Freddie but not for the better. Freddie has ambience and feeling in his voice were Lambert puts nothing into his voice and its just bland. Sure we all like to see Brian & Roger playing live but not in this degrading way with an American Idol reject its so cheap and naff.

It's a true statement, but pretty shameless too - most of the time their official line is 'this isn't about comparison to Freddie'. Normally Adam's presence in the band doesn't incense me like it does for some people, however if Brian himself wants to make it a matter of comparison, then of course Adam is going to lose every time.
Hitting the high notes doesn't mean all that much when it's done without any sense of dynamics or sensitivity, and his delivery is still incredibly overwrought across the board. Overall he has improved a lot since the beginning, but he's still a one trick pony whose voice can be incredibly grating.

True. If what makes singer great is hitting high notes and vocal range then she should be consider the best singer in the history. Luckily this isn't the case:

Lambert is just a karaoke singer. Ten a penny.

Squealing like a fat pig more like and they call it reaching a high frequency! Its nothing to be proud of is it. Singing a song in tune is much more important and believing what you are singing.

Maybe I was just lucky with the class and school, but I never came across this. When I had just the back of psychology and I read this review of the Boomessays in an attempt to understand whether they can cope with such a topic. And this was probably the only time I found out about such a story that unfortunately turns out to happen quite often in schools

Happystar, People in America don't talk much about Lambert...he's really a non factor. If he sells records here it's mostly teenage girls. I live in Ny, never do I hear anything about him. The real Rock fans of classic Queen think they turned into a Joke.
True story. The only time Adam is mentioned on the radio here, it’s Queen related. His solo stuff flopped everywhere. Not once have I heard a track by him on American radio... he’s more than likely on some commercialized bubblegum pop station. I’m not TOO far from you, and Queen has always been praised here. Adam Lambert isn’t rock, no one I know personally, even hardcore Queen fans, they don’t discuss Adam at all. He’s unimportant to them. It’s not a topic of conversation, even if a non-hardcore Queen fan mentions Queen to me. It’s strange how Adam Worshippers think he’s revived Queen.
A lot of people thought my love of Queen has something to do with my sophistication and intelligence. Many rednecks around. I’ve been downright told by one, “I’m just not smart enough to understand Queen.”
Queen here are viewed as a sophisticated, catchy, hard rock band, with great anthems. They are known by everyone. Funnily enough, before and after Freddie died, if you look in the senior class section in yearbooks, and read about the seniors, the biggest fans of Queen tend to be jocks and intellectuals.

There's no doubt that countless people held Freddie's sexuality against the band. Yes, millions didn't give a damn about it and rightfully so. But far too many did, here in the US and elsewhere. Two members of my family reacted badly to Queen because of Freddie's orientation. And there have been plenty of comments from others over the years. And the biggest shame to me is that so many people never gave the band a chance. And this is a band they might love. Out of sheer ignorance and prejudice and fear. Things are much better now and America is a more tolerant place. People seem to understand just how talented this band was. They weren't just a relic from the '70s. But without question this band has faced an uphill climb in lame, conservative areas. Keep in mind the very first time I ever saw a Queen video someone called Freddie an all-too-familiar slur. They've had a ton to overcome, and that's really quite sad.

Yep. Around the time of IWTBF junior high kids would try to tell me "Queen are a gay band". I would just tell them to fuck off and that they weren't. I don't remember caring if they were tho'.

I have not seen such actions in our society. Everything was normal and respectful of human hobbies.
