it's nearer to the "classic queen" sound, while managing to be fresh and different to anything they'd done before.
A (sort of) late 80s "Jazz at the Races"

I thought the previous album had one or two moments, Princes of the Universe for instance, but not the overall sound or feel of the album. The Miracle does sound like the band had returned and were pulling in the same direction instead of making individual musical style statements and getting lost in the process.
Thankfully they continued and produced Inuendo.
Innuendo is from another league. IWIA was an awesome single so everyone expected a rocking comeback album. The album was very patchy and hit'n miss. Tracks like MBDM or RMF are absymal 80's pop fluff, embarassing songs really. The 2 openers fall flat on their asses. The title track is cheesy musically and lyrically. Breakthru, WIAWI, Scandal; IWIA are the standout tracks and the only good songs. 4 of 10.The rest is subpar and totally forgettable. I remember how disappointed I was after the first spin. Innuendo kicks its ass. Hard to believe they left AGP and TMLWKY off the album. I would rate the album 5/10. Innuendo gets 9/10, Works 7/10 and Magic 6/10.

Miracle sounds like an album. It sounds like Queen. It sounds like the band did when they were great. It's also better for ditching the mid-80s production feel and getting back to basics.
AKOM, HS & Works sound like a bundle of songs stuck together. The production is also lacking.

TM also sounds very patchy. Most later Queen albums generally had no real flow due to their different styles. Not saying that this is bad but TM was certainly no exception. The opposite was the case. After crap like RMF (which is pop fluff) you get a symphonic rock song like WIAWI. The production screams "80's" as well with all the electronic effects.

The Miracle song is pure Freddie. Very light, optimistic with lovely key and tempo changes. As for the lyrics? Really not often Queens forte anyway.
I find the only multi style Queen album that truly flows is Sheer Heart Attack. Even there we have a bit of a non entity of a track as the second last song which clears the way for a bombastic finale.

A bit Off topic, but not entirely,
I would love if they would ever choose to release a “Live album” of some of their studio Jamming, even if they edit it quite a bit, like usual. This could be our only chance of listening to the closest thing possible of Queen live “post 86”, as well as their “sort of” live rendition of post 86 songs, or even some previous songs from older years that never went into a live set. Not to mention some unusual covers, etc. I presume they have some of their jams, specially the 80’s and early 90 ones on tape, and it could make a decent album concept at this stage.
What do you guys think?

It would be great , but seems to be the out of scope for the type of release they would consider.

It seems like it could be a good idea but I'm sure they'd ruin it by using autotune on Freddie's vocals

As good as the idea sounds it might be just some fiddlin' around. TBH i got bored with the 10 min or whatever versions of Face it alone and Stealin' very quickly.....

Face It Alone sounds potentially very emotional, powerful with a high level of classic early Queen musicality.
I wish this had gone on Made In Heaven rather than one of the tracks that were reworked solo or B sides.

SUPPOSE FOR A MOMENT by the time of "Queen For A Day" Freddie HADN'T told the band he had AIDS. So his "I don't want to tour" might've provoked a row - that led to his disclosure.
I don't think that's how it happened, but it's interesting to explore this "alternate history".
For a start his songwriting might've had hints of what he would go on to tell the band. Similarly, the other 3's songwriting might've had hints of "is there something you're trying to tell us, Freddie?"

I agree. And, who says he wasn't already hinting at his health issues? - either blatant denial(s) or some form of double-bluff honesty?
The two "weakest" songs on the album (I'm assuming most of the lyrics were Freddie's) do hint a little:
There was a full moon showing, And we started to play
But in the cold light of day next morning - Party was over - huh
The party was over
We got love and we got style, And we got sex and I know I know we got what it takes
We got all night, we got all day - We got all night to play
Ah, comeback, comeback, comeback, comeback, comeback and play
Hey hey hey, Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye, goodbye, the party is over
Who said that my party was all over - Huh huh I'm in pretty good shape
The best years of my life are like a supernova, Huh huh perpetual craze I said that
No-one stops my party - No-one no-one no-one stops my party

@ Martin Packer. i think in 1989 most of the music industry were speculating Freddie's diagnosis because it was highlighted in the press around 1987 that he could be Hiv positive
plus after the Magic Tour Freddie did comment that he needed a long rest as he was worn out with it all.
The broadbcast of "Queen for a Day" on radio one with Mike Reid probably only confirmed to the band that Freddie was ill as he was always up for touring,
but when asked he seemed adamant that he was the spanner in the works and touring was gruelling and that he did not want to tour this time.
